Rye berries for spawn

hey, I am going to purchase a bag of rye berries for my monotub spawn project that im about to start, but I have a question regarding the rye berries
the brand says that they are organic rye berries, with only the hull removed. is the hull an important part and will it make the rye unusable for growing purposes. The seller states they are great for mycology so im assuming it wont isn't.
thanks

Im trying to figure out what the spawn to sub ratio is, any ideas?
I was going to buy a 10 lb bag, but wanna make sure I have enough. they also offer a 25 lb bag.

I use 3 half gallons (6 quarts) of organic rye berries per 66qt tub. Fill up 3 quart jars 2/3 of the way with the dry rye berries. They will approximately double in size once soaked. You only want your jars 2/3 full so there's plenty of room to shake them.
To prep them for PCing, measure out your rye, dump into a pot of boiling water, remove the pot from the heat, and let the grain soak until it's fully hydrated. Chew up a piece, and if it isn't crunchy it is ready. Then, pour your rye berries into a wire mesh strainer and rinse them with hot water.
Then, spread the rye out onto a towel and let the outside of the grain get barely dry. The rye is now ready to be loaded into jars and PC'd.
there are many other ways to prep rye but this way is the hardest to screw up

Oh, and I do my monotubs at a 6:8 spawn:bulk sub ratio. Definitely get the biggest bag you can. I special order mine from a health food store in 50lb bags. A 50lb bag of organic rye costs me about 40 bucks. Oats and WBS are way cheaper, but I like rye.

and do you just transfer the spawn to sub in open air?
what sub mix do you use?(I cannot manure)
how much agar should I buy, im taking the leap into it and I need to know how much would be good to have, I have no idea how may petri dishes I need to make.

Yes, you spawn the tubs in open air. Fully colonized grains won't get contaminated, and neither will a properly pasteurized bulk substrate. If you can't get manure just use 50/50 coir/verm.
If you're just starting with agar, you'd better buy plenty of everything. Get like 100 petris and 3 or 4 ounces of agar powder, plus a bag of dextrose/corn syrup, potato starch, and corn starch. Grain soak water makes a good agar nutrient too. It's good to constantly switch up your agar nutrients to keep your culture from getting lazy. You can use grain soak water, malt extract, dog food, cornmeal, you name it.

what is the dextrose, starch for? do you have to add nutrients to the agar? I thought you just needed the agar lol...
so ill spawn 12 qt jars,6 per tub. also im using wide mouth qt, hope that doesn't matter.

Yes, you need to add nutrients to the agar
Wide mouth quart jars are pretty much the standard. I use half gallons as well as quarts.

Start out with potato dextrose agar and grain water agar. I cook my agar in 500ml batches and use anywhere between 8 and 10 grams of agar powder depending on how stiff I want the agar to be. With potato dextrose agar, add like 10 grams of dextrose or corn syrup and 5 grams of potato starch per 500ml. For grain water agar, just use 8-10 grams of agar powder per 500ml of half strength grain soak water.
There's a lot of good info out there if you look around. I'm going to bed.
