Crashed my car
    #21823795 - 06/18/15 02:06 PM (8 years, 7 months ago)

Long story short I took a corner too fast in wet conditions, lost control, and hit a curb and skidded up a hill. The damage right now consists of two flat tires, a messed up rim, a towing bill, and whatever else my mechanic finds. Luckily I was the only one in the car and no one else was involved.

It felt good to be able to take deep breaths of the cool air after I got out and had a tow truck on its way.

What crazy car ordeals have you guys been in?

It's far from totaled. I don't know much about cars but I feel like I can at least say that much. But yeah cars are expensive, just like most other things. The trick is to not get so caught up in money.

It's good it's far from totaled but sill sucks it's gonna cost you $ you weren't expecting to spend.

In ND this past winter, the roads were really icy and I ended up gliding on a patch of ice and over-doing turning my steering wheel (trying to get back control) and so I ended up turned around 180 degrees. So I was facing the wrong way while still going 'forward' due to the momentum. This was on a 70MPH highway. It's insane to think how lucky I was there was no cars around me for about 100 yards.

I ended up regaining control and was able to pull it off to the side of the road. Then a trucker who was far behind who saw me, drove by really slow to see if I was ok. I was, so he left.

That shit was scary.

I was hit by a car while on skates that didn't stop to see if I was okay when I was younger.

Got tboned on the side I was sitting on at an intersection when someone tried to blow the light. Somehow no one in the car even got scratched.

Another time me and two friends were just driving around with no where to go, they said go left, to be a dick I went right. Truck that was behind me went left, got tboned and died. Thank god for being a dick sometimes.

Sitting in the backseat of my moms car, a drunk guy slammed into the back of us going 50, then go out and ran in the woods, turns out he was illegal and a stolen car so he was never caught.

Friend spun out being a douche and trying to drift around a turn (thanks fast and furious) and hit a tree dead on while I was in the passenger seat.

There's way too many car ordeals with me lol, but these are the ones I thought of off the top of my head.

The only time I ever fucked my car up. My friend had a U shaped driveway with a lot of trees and shit inside the U, at like 2 he was drunk and asked me to take him back to his house, but turn my lights off as to not wake his parents, tried driving away with lights off, went over a decent size stump that fucked up the bottom of my car so bad, and never sounded right again. Luckily my mechanic friend fixed most of it for free and only charged me the parts he needed to order in.

 Jokes aside though it's crazy that as something as simple as that saved your life.

Damn Mule, that literally would've scared the shit outta me. The bill is gonna suck but I keep trying to remember that it could've been much worse. Besides, lately I've been realizing that money isn't something I should get worked up over. I work, I can pay the few bills I do have, and I even go out to eat here and there. The rest is not worth stressin over.

Had the almost exact story as you brother except I was just trying to make a yellow arrow and i was angry driving, I learned not to do that after that day lol. I totally fucked the bottom up on that car, my first car, same thing with popped tires, two fucked rims, suspension, bumpers, windshield, it goes on and on haha.

I am happy to hear that you're still here to talk about it though! :happyweed:

I am also very happy I can say the same for me.
Enjoy everything man, and let that be a big reminder:highfive1:

I've only been in one accident in the 14 years I've been driving on a daily basis, but the accident was pretty crazy.

I was on a 2 lane highway doing about 55. The car in front of me slams on his brakes (to this day I don't know why) so I'm faced with rear ending him, veering to the right and dropping down a 10 foot ditch, or veering left into oncoming traffic to avoid it.

The last option was what I took since it was a very rural area with an oncoming car having gone by once every few minutes. Unfortunately wrong place, wrong time, when I veered there was a big Chevy Suburban heading straight towards me. Somehow I maneuvered back to the right enough that the Suburban only clipped me in what felt like the driver's side quarterpanel.

That's not the crazy part though. What happened was that I immediately pulled over into a post office parking lot maybe a 1/4 mile down the road. I got out and checked around both sides of the car & the front. There was only a small dent and scratch on the quarterpanel. I didn't even bother checking the back of the car because, well, I was stupid.

I waited there for a few minutes then started walking down the road to check on the SUV that hit me (or I hit him on how you look at it) After 10-15 minutes of not seeing it, I went back to the car, said fuck it, and went on my way since I was on a road trip and there was minimal damage.

Almost 2 hours later I'm almost to my destination when I receive a phone call from FL HWY Police saying that I was involved in a hit and run and that they have my bumper with the license plate attached to it  I guess the SUV clipped me just enough on the bumper to make it fall off.

The cop told me to meet him at a certain gas station at one of the highway exits which I proceeded to do.
Got charged with a felony hit and run which thankfully was later dropped to a misdemeanor. Spent just over a month in jail, got my license suspended for a full year, 1 year mail-in probation, and assigned to 150 hours community service. Lawyer fees ended up amounting to around 10k.

5 years later and I'm still very confused about what exactly happened that crazy day.

OP, glad to hear you didn't get hurt.
Unless you did damage to the frame of the car you'll be able to fix it up for under $500.
You got lucky, my friend.

I got kicked out of Bisco because my friend got caught dealing.

Security made us leave at 5am, I lived 3 hours away so I tried driving all the way there without stopping to sleep.

I was running on a bunch of K, water and no sleep.

Ended up falling asleep on the thruway, lost control and slammed into a guard rail going 70mph.

We had a bunch of K, mushrooms, couple sheets of gel tabs and weed.

Cop never searched the car thank god. Just gave me a ticket for unsafe lane change.

Then the NYS Thruway authority sent me a bill a month later for $3,700 to fix the guard rail.

:facepalm3:

You guys have some crazy stories. Thanks for the positive vibes Spoorman :mushroom2:

I think that's bs Kronik. I'd be pissed. All that is better than losing a game of chicken against a Suburban.

$3.7k is alot better than what would've happened if the cop had searched your car Big Worm.

One time, I was coming home from a music festival with a couple buddies. One of them was driving.

He had did a bunch of L the previous few nights, so I'm not sure if that had an effect on him or not.. I don't think he got much sleep.

Well we were on the highway headed home going like 70 mph. All of a sudden my buddy starts to drift off the side of the highway... and he keeps drifting... but he doesn't correct the car or anything... he doesn't even try to prevent the car from going off the side of the road. There was a good 4-5 second window of him gradually drifting off the side of the road where he could have corrected the vehicle at any moment and we would have been fine.

So I'm like WTF, and scream his name at the top of my lungs. At this point it's too late, we're already halfway off the side of the road going 70 mph. He yells out "OH SHIT" and finally turns the wheel the other way too try to prevent a complete wipe-out. But at this point it's already too late. So we careen off the side of the highway into a fuckin ditch goin 70 mph, and hit the wire mesh guard rail dividing the two opposite sides of the highway.

Overall, the crash wasn't that bad. We were going pretty fast on the highway but the car didn't flip over or go into oncoming traffic or anything like that. So none of us were hurt. But the car is totaled.

Some people pull over and start helping us. Eventually the cops come. Almost immediately they find a bottle of cannabis tincture. Luckily for us, not like it's labeled lol, they didn't know what it was. Gave it back to us and sent us on our way.

My parents ended up driving all the way out to wherever we were and picked us up and drove us all home.

That was a pretty good festival too. Good times.

I've had a few bad accidents... Totaled my car 3 separate times. It fucking sucked. Really screwed me over financially. I don't like to talk or even think about it. 1 was my fault, 1 was not and 1 was mutual responsibility.

OP, just be glad the damage was minor and no other party was involved.

I've learned my lesson and now drive like Ms Daisy.

Only time I totaled my car was at a stop light. I was distracted by something and there was a large pickup in front of me. My car slid under it and it ripped off the whole top of the front of the car. I am glad I didn't die that day, if the truck was any higher I probably would have broken my neck

The last wreck I got in was fucking ridiculous. I seriously thought I was going to die. I was driving home from work going about 55 mph. I had a green light and was binding my business when someone idiot tries to make a last second left turn as I'm going through the intersection. I end up T-boning the passenger side of the vehicle and fuckin the guy in the front seat up pretty bad. I hop out of my car to see if everyone was alright and the guy in the passenger side was seizing pretty hard. I think he hit his head on the dashboard or something like that. The driver was a fucking moron though. He stalled on calling the cops for like 15 minutes while his friend was convulsing because he had weed in the car. So i watch him dig under the seat, pull out this giant ass bag of weed, and throw it over the fence in a nearby apartment complex. :freshwtf:

He didn't have insurance either so he kept telling me his dad would give me the insurance information when he showed up. Never got it. Both cars were totaled in the guy in the passenger seat had to go to the hospital. He kept insisting he was fine but kept asking where was phone was while it was in his hand

I smashed into a 1986 porsche a few months ago because I was looking at a pile of sand on the side of the interstate. Only going about 30 though since it was rush-hour.

I remember right after my bestfriend got his license, we were driving to somebody's house. He had just gotten the car less than a week before. As we came up on an exit to an apartment complex a car comes flying out across our lane, we swerve to the left to avoid him but hit eachother in the front corners.
I'm just grateful we hadn't been a few seconds faster because the guy would have come out and tboned right into the passenger side right where I was sitting. The guy didn't have insurance, it wasn't his car and I don't really remember if his roommate had insurance on the car? The weird part was the guy had a big teethy smile ok his face the whole time.

Ive never been in a car accident, never had a speeding ticket.

Yesterday, in my 2006 crown vic police interceptor that i just bought last week in perfect condition, i got into my first accident ever.

There was road construction on a main street late at night. I was following some mercedes in front of me, both doing about 45 in a 30. There was a slight dip in the street and he slammed on his brakes, really hard.

I slammed too, but couldnt stop in time not to hit him, so i swerved to the right. Ended up hitting a parked car. That car hit the car in front of it.

My car was in perfect condition, ive never seen a crown vic that clean with NO scratches, rust, anywhere.

Accidents suck major ass

Shitty, man.
It's close to impossible these days to find Crown Vics from the 00's without either ridiculously high mileage or various electronic and cosmetic problems. Especially the PI edition.

How much did you pay for it if you don't mind me asking?

Paid $3,100.

I did have some electronics problems. The dash was a bit fucked, would go on and off. Its only a controller issue though, ao repair is going to be 150 max.

Had 106k miles on it, purred like a dream.

Shittiest part was that i was on my last delivery as a pizza driver, literally down the block from the restaurant on the way back. Plus it was one i shouldnt have even taken, but the place was swamped and i volunteered to.

Ha. No.

I have liability insurance, like a fucking idiot. I was waiting for my new job i started today(fucking amazing btw, literally everything i couldve ever hoped for in a job) to get better insurance.

Well, i should be making $1200 a week now so maybe this wont be such a big deal in a month. Broke bank though. The 3100 i spent on the xar plus the few hundred i was going to put into repairs was already stretching my savings.

In a month or so this should all have been blown over.

Im just upset at how perfect of a condition it was in when i bought it, i mean it was the best crown vic ive ever seen, clean as a motherfucker.

I feel you, brother. You don't need to beat yourself up over it though, especially not over only having liability insurance.

Every car I've had with the exception of one for the past 14 years I've only gotten liability. I much rather pay only $60 a month as opposed to $220 a month since spending that much money over even one year is enough to get me in a new (used) car.

My current daily driver is a 2002 Mazda 6 with only 88k miles & not one scratch. It's not fancy, it's not fast but for transportation it's wonderful since there isn't a single problem with it. When I still worked in the auto industry I used to switch cars at least once a year. They were always cars under 10 grand but cars that drew attention from cops (i.e. 99 Eclipse GSX).

I loved them, and I loved drag racing, modding them, etc. I'm not about that life now that I'm almost 30. I drive like a grandma and am very happy doing so lol.

Been driving for 16 years and haven't had a single accident yet (knock on wood)
Have avoided numerous accidents due to situational awareness and skill
The only accidents I've been involved in were when other people were driving, or the one time I got hit by a car when I was 7.
I don't like riding in the car when other people are driving, can't really trust most people.
Especially other drivers... have to be hyper aware of other drivers on the road... they are the biggest danger. Lots of completely clueless retards with licenses out there.

Please tell me it was a 944 or 928, not a 911/930. :mad2::mad2: if you hit an aircooled.

I never crashed into another car before.  Been in a little bumpsy-doodle as a passenger though when the driver was more fixated at ogling over a mkiv supra than the escort in front ov us that we soon became intimate with.  But as a passenger, my most interesting story was'nt really an accident at all:

I'm seated driver side rear with 3 others in the car, a 92-95(eg) civic hatch with a built 12.5:1 comp n/a b20vtec swap as imaginal reference for the car gals and guys.  We were just cruising about, looking to catch a run should one pop up.  We were making a very slow turn to merge at about 15mph or so when BANG!  My ears are ringing from the noise and the cabin is instantly filled with this brownish powder that renders vision insupportable.  My friend is somehow able to pull over and we exit.

What happened?  The loud bang and powder were both airbags going off.  See, the car was lowered and with the 4 ov us was dropped even more.  The header, which ran under the engine, had hit a raised manhole cover and the contact set off the airbags.  The front passenger had inhaled a big shot ov the brown powder and ended up throwing it up :puke:.  That'll wake ya up.

I've only been driving 5 years and I know exactly what you mean by that (in the bolden letters). 4 years ago I was going in for a left had turn into the post office. I was stopped to let the cars on the other side pass. As I was looking out my rear view, I saw a car barreling down the road with no sign of stopping. Seeing this, I when full throttle and averted out of the way onto the right side onto another road. As I looked to my left, I saw the car behind me slamming on its brakes about 10 ft from where my car was, you could see the whole weight of the car going to the front like a really hard brake. Must have been going 50-60 miles an hour... Then I seen the driver was an elderly lady and I just though damn thank God for good situational awareness and driving skill. I never stop without looking in my rear view now.

What crazy car ordeals have you guys been in?

A friend and I were going out to the bush to tend some plants and he'd had a couple glasses of wine. Although he wasn't inebrieted, he stated that legally he shouldn't be driving. We were 10kms on backroads and he had been calling me a pussy for wearing my seat belt. We hit a steep corner, skidded and he overcorrected and we went over the edge. The truck did a full roll, half collapsed the roof and smashed the windows and we were both fine. Had to walk 10kms out just before dark.

EDIT: Also got t-boned as a passenger when i was in grade 5. We were going through a 4 way stop which is never busy. The guy on the cross street slammed on the gas instead of the gas and plowed into my dads little toyota truck on my side. My cousin, dad and I were sitting in a row on a bench seat and I slammed into my cousin and broke his collar bone and my dad and I had whiplash and some abrasions but nothing serious. The truck did a 180 and nearly tipped when it hit the curb going the opposite direction. The firefighters who responded said if the truck impacted an inch or two from where it did, it could have killed us.

A lot of inexperienced drivers don't really know how fucking important situational awareness is.
Even if you are the best driver in the world, that doesn't stop some idiot texting while driving from slamming into you at 60mph.
A lot of really bad / careless / oblivious drivers out there that don't pay any attention to their surroundings. I worry far more about other drivers than anything else when I'm driving.

One accident I avoided last year was pretty intense. I was driving down the highway and it was a part where two highways merge together.. and traffic was really backed up where it merges.. so we were going from doing ~80MPH and slowing down real fast. As I'm slowing down, I look in my side mirror and see a truck hauling ass in the lane next to me.. had to be doing about 80 and the car in front of him (right in front of me and to the right) was slowing down real fast..  probably doing about 25MPH and laying on the brakes. I knew the impact was coming because there was no way that guy could stop in time.. sure enough a millisecond later I hear screeching tires and BLAM!

He slams into the back of the car at full speed and sends it spinning across the highway.. it spun out into my lane RIGHT in front of me and I was still doing about 40-50MPH, since I saw it coming I was prepared and immediately took a hard evasive turn into the shoulder... it barely missed hitting me head on by literally inches, if not millimeters. If I hadn't been paying attention to what was going on around me... if my eyes were looking at my phone or something for a quarter of a second... I would have been smashed by an out of control spinning car and probably would have totaled my car. I narrowly missed it, drove on and I was watching in my rear view, it ended up being like a 6 car accident.. that car ended up hitting a couple of cars and the guy behind me wasn't paying attention and smacked into it.

I have several other stories like that too, when I narrowly avoided a bad accident just because I was 1) Paying Attention and 2) Took instant action

It's vitally important to be aware of your surroundings. When I'm driving.. I pretty much ALWAYS know what's around me in 360 degrees. It's instinct, to check my side mirrors and rear view every so often to make sure I'm aware of what is behind me and to the sides as well as in front. Also equally important...is making sure you have your side mirrors set up properly. You can eliminate 99% of any "blind spot" in your side mirrors just by adjusting them properly.

So wait, explain how that works. Did the airbags explode without deploying and smacking you in the face somehow?

Both airbags deployed from the impact ov the engine hitting the manhole cover and tripping the sensors.  The brownish powder must have been inside the dash/steering wheel or something; i'm not sure what that was.  The windshield was also cracked by the airbags(these were the oldschool nose-busting airbags).  I did'nt get hit by the airbags as i was sitting in the back.  To me it was just a loud bang and the whole inside ov the car being instantly filled with this mess ov powder in the air.  I had no idea what was going on and did'nt see the deployed bags until i got out ov the car.

I've been in one accident. I was coming up on a highway intersection and I was going straight. Lady was turning left so she stopped at the light, then I enter the intersection and she tries whipping out in front of me. Oncoming traffic on the left of me, on the right was more cars, all I could do was brake. I hit her with the front right side of MY DAD'S car, just below the light. And I got her in the tire and right rear quater panel. I was so pissed. I had my son in the car. If it was any worse I might have considered channeling my inner Wayne Brady. It wasn't terrible though, cosmetic on my end, she wasn't so lucky. It was a new Cadillac too, those fuckers have expensive parts.

One more reason for me to dislike cars that have super low suspensions.
Got the whip back today. I'm running on a dummy right now as my mechanic couldn't find a rim that would work right away. I'm gonna get a new rim and tire put on this coming week. Besides that, he was able to repair the other tire and everything else seems fine.
