do cats know when youre tripping?

I was coming down from my lsd trip, and I was feeling kind of miserable and just wanted it to end but I knew I had to just sit through it. Was feeling really nausous and sick and a bit scared. My cat kept clawing at the door and wouldn't stop until I let him in, then he was really playful and snuggly. He's usually never like this.. usually he's very distant and does his own thing.
Did he smell like... my fear pheremones through the door and wanted to comfort me, or my dopamine pheremones and thought I wanted to play, or what?
At the time of the trip I thought this was a sign from the universe that there's still goodness and love in the world and the cat is being sent to make me feel that or some shit lol. But now that I'm sober and thinking rationally, I'm kind of looking for a scientific reason...

My dog has displayed similar behavior before. I do think they know, and that they are able to relate to our brain states VERY well. In a sense, because of their domestication and co-evolution, they are really tuned into how we are.
I was on the tail end of an intense acid experience and my dog came and sat down with me, and licked my hand and arm for over 45 minutes. I was crying because the gesture was so beautiful for me at the time. It was as if she was channeling an unconditional love that everyone knows, at a deep level, but sometimes forget about. Truly a touching moment, makes me tear up just remembering.

I think they sense something. Roy stayed with me the other night but I think Frankie was freaked out.

Animal are a lot more in tune with the behavior and emotions of humans around them.
I would say that yes, definitely, your cat has noticed a difference from your normal self.
Going as far as saying that it knows it's a drug is far fetched, but if somebody brought me a quick study about bloodhound smelling the drug in your system, I would be inclined to believe it.

Most mammals are a lot smarter than the 90% let on
they have brains similar to us Albeit usually less advanced in language etc
But still blows my mind, how brains work the way they do

there are just way too many of these situations for it to not be true
animals def have a higher connection to feelings than most other species, humans are just as capable but we're usually too preoccupied with other things to notice

My friends and I all agree that animals (cats in my case, dogs in their case) can tell something's up. What I just realized was that only 1 out of my 4 cats would act any different around me.

I feel like I've seen cats react to the same exact visuals as me(like the blanket on the surface rippling). The odd behavior from my friend's cat would spike and minimize at the same rate our trip was. I think apart of this is that animals probably sense that you're acting strange - big pupils, you might be staring at them uncomfortably without realizing it, but I read somewhere that cats can see UV light that humans cannot, so the way the world looks to them is very different and they certainly see things that we can't with the naked eye.
One a slightly related note, The only other time I saw my friend's cat freak out randomly(he was normally pretty lazy, and would play but not the type to run and jump like a maniac like some cats) was when they moved into a house where two people died. The whole place was creepy, I'm a skeptic and I was immensely freaked out and couldn't explain a lot of odd things that happened around that place.
(I still think it some of it might've been explained by the house's odd location where there was a lot of mining and giant operational plants that I felt generated some weird electromagnetic shit, which has been proven to make humans fear an innate sense of doom and discomfort)
But anyway, when I'd crash on their couch at night and at certain times throughout the night that cat would fucking growl at random things, like in a way I have never fucking heard a house cat growl before(this is a house totally isolated in the middle of the woods, big floor to ceiling windows they didn't even put blinds on because it was so isolated, so you'd look out and see nothing but black). He'd end up divebombing off the couch, growling, and sprinting from one end of the house to the big windows and stare out into the darkness, and when I turned on the outside light there would be no animals that I could see.
The only animal that never reacted differently while I was tripping, was my old golden retriever, who was a very emotionally intuitive animal altogether. When he was there while I was tripping, I felt nothing but calm, kind, loving energy emanating from him. I, am by nature a skeptic and everything and everything is kind of like shrodinger's cat to me until it's factually proven - both possible and impossible, but I always felt that dog's soul was almost put here to help guide whoever was lucky enough to encounter it.
I miss him, he died in February and since then my house feels different, and beyond the loss of a pet, the energy almost feels heavier and more foreboding.
Animals are amazing. There is so much our brain filters out in our default state that the real truth/nature of the universe is far from what we automatically perceive it to be, I think anyone who's taken acid knows that. All other being on this earth have their own "filters" and perception of the universe that are often drastically different from our own, and I think it's a hard fact that they see things we don't(and vice versa).

I don't think animals understand what tripping is, I think they are just sensitive to body language and your behavior and sense something is off. My damn dog is glued to me if I trip around her, and tackles me, if I start walking around she follows me staring at my face with this look like she's trying to make sure I'm okay lol.
Get's super excited and jumpy too.

I think animals know that you aren't sober for sure. That would be the whole reason for shrooms to develop psilocybin evolutionarily. If you were in the wild where a predator could easily take advantage of you, you wouldn't want to be high off your ass on psilocybin. This would prevent you from ingesting that mushroom and therefore promote them evolutionary. Now that we rarely have to worry about predators we have taken advantage of this to get high, thus promoting them even more.

i tripped with one of my dogs once. i threw up some mescaline during a trip and she ended up eating it off the ground when i wasnt looking. i know this because i was tripping too and i noticed she looked really really anxious and everytime i would walk she'd follow me very closely like practically attached to the side of my leg cuz i guess she felt safe with me. then it came to me like a flash of lighting, "holy shit she's tripping.."
she got pretty comfortable after a while and at some point i could have sworn she teleported. even my other dog, who was sober, we gave each other a look like, "did she just do that?..".

Everybody says their cats know that they're tripping, but I've chilled with my cat countless times when I'm on acid and I always conclude that he's as dumb as a bag of rocks.
Just look at him in my signature. He's such an idiot.

damn this thread got me thinking about my cat.. she was my best friend for many years and I have no idea even if she is dead or alive.. and I will never find out
She definitely knew something was up when I was tripping. Tho I think she probably picked up on the change in my behavior.

Definitely, me and my girlfriend went to the zoo on an eighth of Ps. cyanescens and a few homegrown cubes to top em off and almost every animal tried to interact with us.. The kookaburra, when it saw my girlfriend it wigged the hell out! It thrashed its head around and started flying into the glass (it was in a cage with glass windows). It continued flying into the glass super hard until we walked away. It creeped me out and I am surprised the bird is okay (if it is okay..). The monkeys pointed at us and screamed, The bear was cool and followed my finger along the glass after waking from a dead sleep and ignoring everyone else. . That was an awesome zoo trip.
My own animals have always seemed to notice when I am on psychedelics every time. Either they stare at me strange the whole time, or they act bonkers (cats).
