I've been running a double propane burner indoors for years. Just do it by an open window

Shit in that case I may as well be outside lol. It may be feasible to do that in the winter but summer time where I am it would be extremely counter productive.

I tried outside, but too much floating around tge air out there. Put a fan in the window to draw out the heat. Hotplate will work, but takes FOREVER to get to temperature

Too much floating around? Explain good sir. I'm assuming you had filtered jars or bags with sleeves.

Apparently all you need to convert the 941 into an autoclave is the stopcock and vent tube. AFAIK all the other parts are exactly the same. The existing over pressure plug should work just fine.

I thought they had different overpressure plugs? One will allow a vacuum and one won't I believe.
But is it safe to run a 941 17-20psi like the 75?

I wonder if hamloaf will weigh in. He's the one that told me about the necessary modifications you need to make.
For what it's worth, I think the stopcock is what makes the autoclave a form a vacuum, because it stays closed unless it's venting steam. That means the inside is airtight and will form a vacuum once cool. Also for what it's worth, I've taken my 23qt presto up to 20psi and the overpressure plug didn't pop, so I can't imagine an AA would.

I remember RR saying the overpressure plugs were different. The 75 having a red one that would form a seal upon cooling and the pc plug which would let air seep in.
Maybe I should just keep the original plug so its not too damn hard to open.

No you're right. It is a different overpressure plug, but it's only 5 bucks. You could turn a 941 into a 1941x for probably another 50 bucks. I'm not sure what all it involves, but I'm pretty positive that all the AA lids are machined the same way, just using different parts depending on whether it's a canner or an autoclave.

As far as I know from reading you just replace the weight nozzle with a stopcock one and replace the overpressure plug.
I may leave the original plug so it won't form such a high vacuum. Maybe order a red one anyway so I can try it one way then another.
Any idea to my question of if it's cool to run a 941 @20psi like some do their sterilizers?
Is the sterilizer heftier then the pc?

The metal bodies for the canners and autoclaves are identical AFAIK. I'm sure all of them can handle way more than 20psi too.

I prefer the pc to be in a cleanish environment. Outside cooking requires cleaning the pc before opening

If your pc is inside, the outside of it is going to be filthy lol. Given that you don't run it in a filtered lab

Replacing the weight regulator with stopcock allots for A lot less water to escape during the PCing cycle, thus makes it possible to do longer runs at higher psi. If you want device to pull into a vacuum, then you will have to add the capillary tube. Changing the black plug for the red one will also need to be employed when modifying your AA 941 PC into a Steroclave. Good luck!

Are there any benefits to having it pull a vacuum hamloaf? I thought that just by replacing the toggle spout with the petcock would seal it?
how does the capillary tube come into play?

Dude ive burned out many a hotplate from long runs. Some brands only lasted like a month. Its hard to get a fully loaded large sized pc up to temp but once you get there its all good.
The brand to get is proctor silex. ive been pounding on mine for 3 years since I got it...

Nah, replacing the weight regulator with the stopcock doesn't seal the PC, BUT it causes A LOT less water to escape the PC, thus longer sterilization runs can be employed at higher psi's.
Not sure of how the capillary tube comes into play, nor acutely aware of what advantages there are to having your sterilization vessel pull into a vacuum. Never been that analytical about the subject. All that's known is that AAx's that came with capillary tube, and stopcock & pull into a vacuum. Modified/hot rod AA941 only has the stopcock conversion with red plug, and it looses A LOT less water, but doesn't pull into a vacuum.
