the 3" mark (monotub)
    #21823121 - 06/18/15 10:53 AM (8 years, 7 months ago)

Iam spawning 3 and 4 quarts of millet to 2 46qt tub...do i have to reach the 3" mark with smaller tubs?
iam doing for 1:2 spawn sub ratio
with the 4 quarts spawn i reached 2" maybe little bit more.
still didnt spawn the other 3 so should i apply more sub to reach the 3" mark?

I would add more substrate, the only drawback is longer colonization times. But, make sure the surface layer comes up to about 1/2" of the bottom holes on your monotub. Then, you will be able to dial it in correctly during the fruiting process.

I have already made one that reached the 2" mark...should i pasturize more sub and mix it...its been two days.
will add more sub in the next one to reach the 3".
and i thought you leave 1" between the hole and the 3" mark so you make your hole at the 4"

I have run lots of 2" subs with no issues. You just might not see as many flushes and may need to mist a bit.

Better to have a good spawn ratio, at this point, then to add more sub, to reach some relatively arbitrary mark on the tub.

Well i read that 5-8 spawn is good for 66qt tub.
thats why i have decided to use 3-6 spawn jars for the 40 something tub.
will you tell me a good ratio?

Its less about substrate depth and more about surface area.

2in subs can work great. I don't think there's any "set" depth one should wish to achieve.

Don't use higher than a 1:2 ratio. 1.5 is a good ratio, lately I been doing 1:1 ratio.

Ok so for a 66qt tub 5 or 6 jars of spawn and 10 or 11 sub is a good ratio...right?
