verm straight out of the bag to pasturized coir

I have another question is it ok to add verm straight from the bag to the coir that cooled down from pasteurization to balance the water and the mix?

Yup unless your bag has been sitting open for awhile you should be ok.

NO. The entire point of having the verm there is to pasteurize it. If you add it AFTERWARDS, your substrate is no longer pasteurized.
You can roll cakes because the verm itself will not grow contams. However the substrate you are adding it to that is UNCOLONIZED will.
Coir is 12 bucks a 3 brick pack. Start over. Better to spend 4 bucks than waste a month of colonizing and several quarts of clean spawn.

Too late...already spawned the mix...what a noobish mistake. I have added only 125ml of unpasteurised verm to it...cant do anything now but to wait. and going to avoid this in the future.

you are probably definitely okay. people mix their subs with their bare hands... its not sterile after you spawn and a little dusty verm wont hurt as long as your coir was properly pasteurized and after mixing you are at field capacity.

I don't think it really matters as long as the bag hasn't been left sitting open to collect dust. On the other hand sterilizing vermiculite is so easy there's not much reason not to do it.

Well it was in a dirty room, certainly not clean. i mixed the spawn and sub and then thought about a top layer, so i decided to use whats left from the sub only to find it too wet, maybe because it was in the bottom, so i mixed it with the 125ml verm. And used the mix as a top layer.

Mix your sub properly next time and that won't be a problem. And the top layer doesn't help anything.

When I do BRF cakes to bulk I use unpasteurized coir and verm straight out of the bag. Never seen a contam.

I did that recently and it triched out during the first flush. I think that was mostly because of the untreated coir casing layer I added and the ghetto inoculated MS cakes I used. I just made another 6 PF cakes with LI. I'm gonna do another PF slurry mini mono, but this time I'm gonna use a properly pasteurized hpoo based substrate. My goal with this one is to see how much a discreet mini mono can potentially yield.

I should clarify that 'never' part. I've really only done about 5 of these tubs so never doesn't mean much. Verm and coir are both pretty contaminant resistant, so chances of a contam are pretty low I think. Unless your spawn is bad, then you don't really have a chance. Don't spawn questionable cakes...

Well I was trying to pull off a grow using the most basic techniques. The only time I mess with cakes is for experiments like that one. When I was a teenager, I tried so many times to grow shrooms on the sly at my parents' house and always failed miserably. It gives me some weird sense of closure to pull off the stealth grows I always wanted to do as a kid.
Now that I'm grown up and have my own place I can do it right, and I much prefer to use grains and pasteurized manure, but it's still fun to play around too. I got a little over 10 grams dry from the first mini mono that I did with unpasteurized coir. I'm determined to pull a dry ounce out of one mini mono using slurried PF cakes, but it will need to be over multiple flushes.

I have done at least six tubs with just coir and verm. Sticking the coir in a bucket of boiling water letting it cool and then adding verm straight out of the bag to fix moisture level. Never had any problems. I used to make trays the same way.

People get the idea of optimal and possible confused. I issued advice under the presumption that he hadn't spawned yet. Yes it is possible it will still work. People have spawned to COMPLETELY unpasteurized coir/verm before, with success. Literally just cold water. Does that mean we should start doing it? No. We should be advising people to do the best they can within the realm of possibility created by a cost/benefit analysis. What is another $4 to ensure optimal conditions?
Every time a bad idea comes up, people are always quick to point out that it has worked for them a few times. Possible =/= Optimal. Teach new growers how to do it optimally, messing around with possibility is for experienced growers who don't need to ask questions like this.
