Trichocereus cutting question

Hi, meet Alejandro. The guy cut it from the main cactus, it was a new growth. Im wondering if i should make a clean cut to promote root growth or if its ok the way it is.
Ive some other questions I will be using 1:1 cacti soil and perlite What do you think of this mix?
I read that rooting hormone wasnt nescessary. Is this true? If you recommend it, what type should i get?
Should I use cacti fertilizer if im using cacti soil?
Thanks in advance ✌

Welcome to the garden. Nice plant you got there. No need to recut it; looks calloused enough to plant as is. That soil sounds alright. Maybe a tad bit less perlite. Don't use any rooting hormone and I wouldn't fertilize until you have a decent amount of roots and new growth.

Might want to stake it up, but should root fine I have used a couple of chopsticks and soft string... Support till root The takes a while to root... Be patient Don't over water... Wait till the top few inches don't feel damp before adding more water... Less is better than more Hormone not needed
Good luck with your grade
Peace

DO NOT WATER AT ALL UNTIL IT SHOWS ROOT BUDS.
If you water a non rooted cutting, you are asking for rot issues.

Its cool how active this community is, thanks a lot for your specifications guys, i will stake it on cacti soil without watering, and will leave it in a dry and dark area for a while until it roots, then i will humidify the earth a bit.

Mine usually throw two little root buds at the same time. Once these little teeth looking things form, I give them about a tablespoon of water, just for them to "smell" the water.

Don't leave it in the dark, it will stretch for light. A bright, shady/semi shaded area will do fine.

I have even heard rooting in direct sun works if the plant is used to it already.
Tested it out with some cuttings and saw fresh growth pretty damn fast! Didn't even bother checking for roots saw growth and started watering.

Growth isn't always an indicator that it has roots. You keep them in lower light to encourage them to form roots, leaving them in high light encourages growth and not so much roots. That method is just standard horticultural practice when taking most cuttings.
The OP's cactus do look quite PC to me as well. Forgot to add that into my last posts.

That does make sense.
The spines look a bit long for a PC to me
Most PC's I have seen have very short spines.

I keep a single 23w cfl bulb hanging down almost to my table. I put my unrooted cuttings in dry soil, and snug the pot next to the bulb. It warms the soil, gives off low light, and starts roots faster than other methods I am trying.
I have some cuttings in a room on a 12/12 timer light and dark, no soil
I have some in dry soil sitting in the living room, where they get light and dark randomly from lights and outside.
I have some rooting out of soil/and in soil in 24 hour dim light. I have some outside rooting in the natural weather (lots of rain right now)

One of the points I have made is that most PC identifications look nothing alike

that last link, iS very interesting. I wanted to thank everyone for your support. Alejandro has started rooting I did not use any rooting hormone
If you look carefully you can see the small roots. I did not use any rooting hormone. Once i plabted it I put it under a hps light, in a premixed cactus soil . It took about 25 days to root
