Musically 2003 was a good year
    #2182203 - 12/16/03 12:43 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

2003s been a good year for me musically, I got to see some bands I had waited years to see, not once but twice in the one year.
As well as good live bands there were some outstanding
albums releases, Hail to the Thief, Strays, Everyone Deserves
Music are a few faves of the year, but there was a lot of
good albums to many to put in order.
My first gig of 2003 was a band I had waited many years to see,
from the first time I heard them when I was sitting by a pool in Florida
till this year had been a long time coming but the Red Hot Chilli Peppers
were worth the years of wait.

Glasgow SECC, March 2003 RHCP, great show but one of the things
that?s stands out wasn?t the music, even though that was mind-blowing
excellent, it was the sniffer dogs at the entrance to the place, man
did that freak me out. 4 joints I ended up ditching into a large coke rather than
walk past those hounds, but it was a great show man. Never to be forgotten
except for those dogs.
Next, Queens of the Stone Age, Glasgow Barrowland
good show but nothing outstanding.

M Manson was up next this one also in June in the Braehead Arena
Glasgow. I never new what to expect from Manson but does anyone
know what to expect at one of his shows. The big disappointment for
me and many others was the time he came on. It was just after 10pm
he came on and I heard later he was arguing with his keyboard player,
so the show was cut to 1 hour. It was worth it though because he put
on one hell of a show, his giant stilts and his pulpit recitals were good.
I thought someone had spiked my drink or something because I jumped
about like crazy that night, great show even if it was only an hour long.

Eminems Anger Management Tour was next and Hampden Park. Big
stadium gigs are not my faves but as Cypress Hill were also on the bill
and the thought of Cypress being 10 miles away from my home was to
much to resist. They sold 50?000 tickets out in no time for this one and
some tickets went on ebay for way above the price, I paid a tout ?65 for
mine. It was a great show but I had seen Cypress and Eminem in much
smaller shows which were better.

Next was RHCP, Foo Fighters and QOTSA at Glasgow Green, a big
outdoor one again but this time much better sound, class of people
and the sun shone all day, QOTSA were much better, the Foos were
awesome, brilliant and seeing RHCP twic in the one year
was to much for my sister and I, oh by the way she come to all the shows.

Adema were up next, very small hall but I tell you that was a great, loud,
heavy performance, its very much appreciated when bands like Adema
go well out their way to come and play for us.

Janes Addiction Nov, Glasgow great show from one of the worlds best,
well that?s the way I saw it.
Blur, Glasgow Barrowland Nov, Blur might not be everyone?s cup of
tea but live there good, very good. Really got the crowd jumping, including
me but if I had one complain, it would be 2 many slow tunes.

Last was 2 weeks ago Michael Franti and Spearhead in the smallest
place you could imagine, Queen Margaret Union.
I am now, after seeing Spearhead one of there biggest fans, a month
ago I never owned a Spearhead cd, now I?ve got 7 and 3 on the way
from Belgium. Does that guy put a message across, just a brilliant
performace from one of the most under rated artists ever to grace our
planet. Two and a half hours on stage, sometimes he had us all sitting
on the floor, sometimes linking arms with the person beside you, just
an incredible message of peace, love and happiness.

to you all.

wow, sounds like you did have quite a year. I'm jealous of your damn English festivals... they always seem more amazing than I thought possible.

Only bands I didn't see that were touring this year that I really wanted to, were Radiohead and A Perfect Circle. They didn't come near my desert 'oasis'...
But yes, I agree, 2003 has been quite the musical year.
I started a band, and have been quite successful developing a sound, saw Pinback, Ben Harper & Jack Johnson, Coldplay, Bela Fleck, Primus, Sigur Ros, and have started developing my own electronic sound.

Fun times, fun times. Also, I completed 20th century music theory at U of A. good times, good times...

Did you catch radiohead at the SECC? It was outstanding.

Tickets are on sale now for A Perfect Circle come February. Sha-mon.

I agree. Hail to the Thief was an amazing album release and it seems many bands put on great shows live this year. Widespread Panic and Phish are both coming to what seems and inevitable hiatus so they're really having fun. Many jam bands seemed to find new inspiration this year. Hopefully it will continue.
