Mine is showing knots on 1 side of the sand castle, I left the lid cracked all day to dry out the substrate a bit.. Hopefully I will see some tomorrow morning and have something picture worthy.
I can't wait to see your tub explode, looks nice and even.
Did you change any ratio's in the sandcastle?
I put a awful lot of spawn in mine. 1/4 quart for each toy, was interested what you did.

i put gloves on and mixed in 4 quarts of spawn with 10 quarts of substrate. mixed it nice and even then loaded up the sandcastle molds with pre mixed substrate.
that was all. i did allow the substrate to fully colonize. a day after full colonization i induced fruiting. i used a bit of a wiggle technique to pull of the molds this time and it worked perfectly. no substrate from the surface was pulled up or anything.

Lmao, I did not even wash my toys, just fucking ripped the bag open and started filling them with spawn, then I picked up some premixed spawn/substrate and mixed that in with the spawn.
The wiggle works for sure, I already broke one of mine, not sure if the wiggle would of helped me on that one though lol!

The problem I had was moisture supply for the upper half of the cakes. They would knot and pin beautiful but mature very small from lack of moisture. My guess is the main sub was acting like a sponge pulling all available water from the cakes to it. Hope you guys get good results. My next run I'll be adding some kind of barrier between the cakes and sub to try and hold all the moisture in the cakes as I can

Don't you mist as needed for mono's?
I mist mine twice a day when they are about to knot, almost 3 when they are maturing, because I take some of my poly fill out.

Misting monos is not necessary in the slightest if you set up your polyfill to retain moisture.
I prefer to give my shrooms a lot of FAE. I start off with the holes pretty loose and mist as needed, loosening gradually until they're pretty much blasted but still maintaining their environment well enough not to bruise. If you choose to go down this route I would recommend a casing at fruit induction and misting once or twice a day.
Never a heavy mist, just something nice and light to coat the casing with moisture. The casing will create that micro-climate the myc loves. The misting stimulates rain. Every summer after a great rain I can find mushrooms outside. This was the basis for me beginning to mist my monotubs.

I would agree with you with any other strain.. If I don't mist my PE tubs they dry out. It takes way too long to colonize and even longer to fruit the bastards. They like a lot of FAE when they are showing fruit's. I add about 8 grams of water every time I go in and spray. It's about 10 sprays out of a bottle, every one will be different.
None of my tubs have a casing layer per say.. It's just mycelium, it eats it every time no matter what or when I case or induce fruiting.
I also think strict advice on mushroom growing is the wrong way to go. Every strain has it's thing, learn and adapt for what you have.

I mist and case all my strains, whether they be PE or regular cubensis.
Also, PE is a thirsty fuck.

I generally never have to mist unless the moisture content was a bit low while mixing the bulk sub. Also, i never mist casings unless a hole of poly falls out by accident. Now with ape there is an exception. Ape require me misting a casing 2 times daily prior to first flush. But after a dunk. No misting necessary. I have an ape tub on a 4th flush from a liquid culture that has not required any additional misting. I was going to toss it to the shroom gods but it keeps flushing after the 2nd flush dunk with no additional misting applied.

misting depends on the environment, if u live in high humidity no need to mist, if not then mist

ok this clone is solid. oh yeah by the way. this grain was prepared using a slurry from a 6 month old pf jar that was sitting in the fridge. this clone was taken a full year ago as well with 9er tek and syringes. no agar used at all. although ive got a load of this culture on agar right now.
the pins on the castle parts are taking slightly longer to pin. probably due to what ppp was saying about those areas having issues sucking up the moisture. maybe i will attempt one with a casing next time.

this is a grow from the same clone last year. all flushes look like this with casings.
