Slicksmooth-double-O-seven-style. You should do a giveaway of prints from these fruiting as to reintroduce these genes back into the population.

Lookin' real good!
Hmm but isn't stropharia cubensis also known as the Cuban strain of psilocybe cubensis? If so I'm so interested in having some prints if possible. Thanks for your time.

im not sure. someone mentioned the old oss and oeric grow kits. that this could be the cubensis that came with those kits. but i don't know the background on it. i only know that around 2002 it was given to me by an old reputable vendor.

Look under taxonomy and naming https://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Psilocybe_cubensis
I'm dying to get my hands on some spores, I've even considered making a trip to the island to collect spores from the mushrooms but it's not fool-proof. I remember My mom would tell me storys of how they would grow everywhere by the and no one in Cuba dares to eat them because they're so uneducated they'd rather not take the risk of eating a poisonous shroom. I want to expand a few minds over there if/when I visit. I'd like to spread the seed knowledge in a country somewhat closed off from the rest of the world. If you haven't already guessed it I'm a Country Boy Cubensis

Thanks. Yeah i tried an A + from 09 and it didnt germinate. I was very surprised. It is a cube variety they misnamed stropharia in the 90s. most of my 5 plus year old prints germinated and i have current grow logs on them. the only one that didn't was the A+. I will try the A+ again.

ok, well lets get back on track here.
i was attempting to bring back this 2003 stropharia misnomered cubensis i had. i had contams on my first run(hit right at the heat wave of summer earlier in this thread). so i did 2 more tubs. multispore from 12 year old prints didn't produce the best genetics. but, i have clone specimen!
im hoping to take some prints on the next run. maybe even 2nd flush. but shes a beauty.

final shots. took some clones. hand was not steady tonight. don't know if i fucked this one up. ive got plenty more plates and spawn. this log will continue on later this year. dense and meaty fruits. the stems crack. 12 year old multispore aborted like hell.

all right. these two tubs are from the cloned tub in the previous post. we are feeding these babies some coir/verm/dung/gypsum mix. 5 quarts of spawn per tub there will also be a tub 3 and a few grain masters were saved for transfer to do a follow up round. hopefully the clone turns out good. im trying to take some good prints to pass on this old variety that was lost over the years. end goal is to spread the spores.
Tub 1: Stropharia
Tub 2: Stropharia

fruited at spawning. all tubs polyed at spawning. put in a room with a fan blowing the entire time. nothing else is done other than taking pictures.
- Tub 1: Stropharia
- Tub 2: Stropharia
- Tub 3: Stropharia
these are some old genetics. im excited. funny part is prints were taken off a substrate that had contams. the substrate had surgery. and clean prints were taken. that same print germinated over 12 years later. pretty fucking cool. it actually germinated and I put a 2009 A print on agar side by side with it. The A print did not germinate. the force is strong with this one. and im wondering where it came from. i mean i know my source, but i wonder where the source was that the vendor got it from back in the day. could be what you mentioned psilo, the old oss and oeric grow kits.

well this sux. i had friends in town and wasn't able to print any of these again. my timing is far off with this stropharia. doing 2nd flushes now. hoping the prints time better. this variety still needs some cleaning up.
they can become very top heavy. ive had some fruits fall over due to the size of the cap.

its still very heavy with aborts. and i haven't had much time to clean it up. im hoping to get some prints real soon, spread genetics to someone who has time to clean up the culture a little. but they faired well with "dialed in" tubs and non dialed in tubs with medium poly.

I actually love these, big giant caps, nice white stems, thick and meaty. I would love to try to clean it up and get some stabilized genetics, I wanted to get a wild print to do that with but I actually think this is cooler.
So if this is the one you send, I won't be unhappy at all.

did you find it to be quite fast munch? i felt this one was real fast. and i took it from prints from 2003 and it still germinated. that was the part that amazed me. lol. it definitely has some nice qualities and some nice color. soemtimes the fruits are so dense in the cap that the fruit falls over.
please spread the genetics if you get a grow in. id love to spread more but i was only able to take about 8 prints when i did. and i haven't grown any since. i kept one for myself. but that is all i have now. wish i had taken more but i was slamming busy at the time.

it will slow down at fruiting though. its lightning fast on the plates and grain but it does fruit a little slower.

hell yeah munch. please take prints!
20 days thats pretty good. i think it was about that timing for me as well. those are some beauties!
i find that the later flush larger fruits get a nice white/pale hue to them. they almost remind me of the thai pink buffalo. but they were around long before the pink buffalo.

went through the spores stock today and found the actual bag with the original stropharia prints from 03. i have 4 of them available and im contemplating doing another giveaway. these are really old prints. but they did germinate for me at the same speeds as fresh spores compared to 10 other varieties side by side. even with the old 03 print.
4 stropharia prints from 2003 batch. (these are from the original post in this thread) you can see that grow.
and i found another one that was labeled old print. it might be from 01-03. likely Z cubensis. but im not really sure. as you can see the foil itself and the folding was a little amateurish at best back then. so that means its real old.
there are no guarantees they will germinate but i feel i should pass these on.
old print
anyway, this isn't the give away just yet. but id be more interested to send this to someone who has the time to work with it and maybe take the time to clean it up to its glory. and of course, spread the spores and update any grows you may have success with!

Oh man, I want that Old Print but I really don't know if I have the kind of time required to work on it just yet.
Got some growth on TX OC. Going to transfer in a day or two and then go to grains with it.

The original Stro print I recieved was very dark black/slightly purple. First flush produced normal spore prints, nice and dark with a tint of purple.
I just peeked in my SAB at my 2nd flush Stro prints, and all the prints appear to be rust colored.

thar she blows.
this was taken from a 2015 print of stropharia from the previous grows in this thread. anyway, its looking good so far. when the pins looked like this today, the filters were changed from folded 3 times, to rolled in all holes. that was all. its ready to begin fruiting. it was top layered at spawning.

I'll post it rather soon here after I take the stro prints Just need a shot of the caps. The cool thing is. You can pickup 15 caps at once and put them on another tray after you take your first prints. So clean up is easy. I always found myself getting a needle and picking up each cap individually. that takes time.
And no extra work like folding foil into a miniature tent. Talk about making shit complicated.

quick update bc im busy. anyway took 30 prints. i may attempt more in the next few weeks. this one has a really nice color and growth pattern. its very quck as well. it clusters too. id definitely make my top layer a little thicker on the next run. this is just multispore from a 2015 print i took earlier in this thread. that first grow was taken from a 2003 print. i may attempt uncased next run. the first run was uncased from the 2003 print. this was top layered at spawning. i use these pinky filters for fae.

im doing a giveaway soon if you want to join.
i have 28 stropharia prints. i just need to wrap them up this weekend.
i love the color on these stro. they get bands of orange, yellow and white. very photogenic.
2nd flush
munch you would love this pinky filter material im using. its super easy. it versatile in the fact that you can stuff it tighter during colonization then loosen it during fruiting.

perhaps. i have a spore print tek ive been procrastinating putting out. it basically shows how to handle the foil so that you can get the prints on near totally flat uncreased sheets of foil. im thinking of pairing it with ur og spore tek so boost the #s i can do in one session.

cool. i dont so much worry about it as much with the foil being flat. i guess i could spend the xtra time to do so. id imageine putting something heavy on it would do the trick. i do like how morelman uses a circle cutter or whatever to make his prints look like cd's. the foil is very flat.what i don't like doing is cutting the foil after the prints have been taken. unnecessary exposure. once dry i like wrapping them up as soon as possible.

So speaking of perpetuating genetics, has anyone ever had the intuition, that psilosibin mushrooms have found an evolutionary niche, where they affect our minds so much, that they guarantee their own genetic survival? Maybe they're the intelligent species in this arrangement.
Something I thought about the other night. Ohh well. Carry on

munch. nice flushes. well, i haven't had much time to look that closely lol so no. ive got the strangest growth on an ape tub right now. they look like normal fruits. and they are clustering. very spongy when dry like ape. almost shmooshy even when bone dry.

Yep.. really loving them so far. Several of my shoeboxes seem to be developing a bunch of aborts & small fruits, but I think its my fault somewhere. The pinsets were excellent and I was preparing for some excellent canopies, and I'm sure it will be there soon enough with future tubs. I've grown several different varieties and even though this is my first batch of Stro they seem special with the myc growth particularly. Looking forward to continuing with this variety...
And some of the shoeboxes with great pinsets but developing small fruits & pointy caps on many (its more pronounced now than when i took these photos):

looking good my man. did you case those?
they are speedy. probably 3rd place for speed for me. tyc, toc, stro. maybe tied with thai lipa yai.
if your getting aborts. could be a dry substrate. i don't see alot of beeds on the surface. but i also didn't zoom in. i find it easier to hold the proper environment in a tub than any tray culture. id call shoeboxes tray culture.

I don't think I cased those ones... I did several shoeboxes and some I put a thin coir only casing on and some I didn't. I generally haven't done casings but I think I may start trying them because I seem to be having problems with surface drying despite good moisture in the sub.
These shoeboxes I intentionally tried to stay hands off because I felt like I was over-doing the amount of attention, but the shoeboxes ended up under-performing and I think it may have partially been problems with surface drying.
I have 2 mini monos of Stro going which I left totally alone and they are both having drying problems of the surface. I think its a combination of the heat in my grow room and it being dry as well.
The pinsets come in consistently excellent when in the knotting / little white dot stage, so I am confident that when I get my conditions nailed down the Stro will be an excellent producer.
Here's a 56qt mono that I spawned with 5 quarts, lightly cased with coir only:
I have several plates of transfered myc from the original spore print and wasn't planning on doing a clone yet... but the mini monos have some good clusters, so I may take a clone.
Eventually I plan on taking some prints for a giveaway

so personally i don't usualy see any drying in tubs unless there is a fan in the room on too high. or, something is loose in the tub. like a polyfil hole or something like that. the other item is, moisture content of your substrate.
i don't mist personally and generally don't have to add any water during colonization, pinning or fruiting. i put all the ingredients into the tub. change my filters not stuffed as tight a few days after pinning. then just harvest. i could leave my house for a week and come back to fruits without having to observe anything. but i make sure all the ingredients and the environment are perfect when i spawn. then you don't have to do anything. just find the right recipe for your environment, and you won't have to do much else. this is why i prefer tubs over observing things like fruiting chambers or tray culture that tend to dry out a little more often and require watering often.
i don't even like misting after 1st flush. i either flood the substrate or just dunk it for an hour. then pour the water off. put back into fruiting and harvest 5-7 days later. most the time, i don't have to to observe or look over anything and you can still get full canopy flushes with no maintenance. no maintenance is the key.
also,
i went back to no casing. actually i wasn't really casing at all. just putting the top layer of coir like you are. the fruits come out a little smaller in size when i do this. i like the ease of spawning and just laying the substrate out flat. not doing much else. i do like the case at spawn method but ive grown far to lazy and reverted back to the way i used to fruit without any casing. when i began this hobby i used to case everything. got lazy and stopped cazing for about 15 years. tried some new things in the last few years and went back to no casing. just out of laziness i guess. one less step. i guess i could say, its not necessarily lazy but time restrained. so one less step saves me time.

That is definitely the direction I'm trying to move towards and also why I was attempting to stay hands off on all these boxes/tubs. I totally get what you're saying, but somewhere I guess I need to fine tune something. Maybe add a bit more water to my coir and/or readjust how FAE is dialed.
I think my drying mini monos are probably due to too loose polyfil especially since they are minis and not full sized. The shoeboxes I may have put the lids loose too early, and also I left them lidless for a while when there was lots of water starting to pool up.
The shoeboxes actually looked better than any I've ever done before... lots of water beads covering the surfaces, except some started to dry out in the corners. The whole time there was lots of moisture on the sides and bottom of the lid as well. This is partly why I was so confused about what seems like drying problems because there was so much moisture still
Anyway, I planned on going to more full sized monos soon and this is just more encouragement to do so.

you could try some press n seal with pinholes poked in the top. you keep it on tight. but when i did this i was using taller tubs so i had poly in too. or it looks like bod uses grocery bags. see if that helps. are you running a fan in the room? i don't do this anymore.

I've never ran fans, although for a few days after initial spawning I had a fan running when my AC was out. The boxes are all stacked in the closet (with door open) and the fan was in the middle of the room. But it was just a few days while they were still colonizing.
There is the AC though which isn't always on, but does blow the air in the room.
I basically am like you with the casings. The only time I really apply a light coir casing is when I have some leftover coir during spawn.

I'm gearing up to start some fresh cultures from my Stropharia print. I think one of my two cultures I'm using currently may be Stropharia, but I'm not totally sure because I didn't keep them labeled in my fridge when I stopped growing over the summer. So I am going to start some fresh from spore with the intent of getting a batch of new prints made up.

I am just now starting to really see flushes from the culture I believe is most likely stropharia, the other one I had in the fridge is definitely not.
I don't have any pics of my current fruits and they are currently between flushes. The recent flushes have been producing the larger fruits with big hamburger bun colored type caps that I remember. Still not totally sure tho... I am just going to start fresh to be totally sure.
I do remember a consistent, distinct look to the fruits/caps, and I really loved the way they looked. Some recent fruits have had a really beautiful look to the caps, so much so that I almost took photos of them just because they were so purdy.
But I just don't feel right taking prints without being 100% sure its actually the right culture.

Ya know what, I actually just had a flash memory back to when I was working on these cultures... I did label them, I was just using my own working labels of random words instead of the variety names.
This one was labeled "VALIS" & I just remembered that I originally labeled the culture "VALIStro" - the Stro designated Stropharia.
So now I am sure that this culture is in fact Stropharia. I may have some prints made up very soon then

I plan on giving the prints I take out... but I may still end up starting with a new, fresh culture from my original print. Cause I'm still feeling a bit obsessive about removing all doubt that it may be a different culture. Perhaps I will feel more comfortable after seeing a few more flushes if I see the familiar looking caps
Either way, I plan on having some prints to give out in the coming months

Awesome if we make a give away feel free to join. I’ll work on it in the next few months.

Alright, I decided to go ahead and start fresh just to be 100% sure or otherwise it woulda been nagging me in the back of my mind.
Just finished swabbing a batch of plates with spores, so hopefully will see some growth soon & will plan on just doing enough transfers to get it looking clean before dropping to grain.
Will plan on taking a bunch of prints from the first flush once it gets there

Back on track. I swabbed two plates. One of syzygy and one of stropharia. Stropharia germinated first.
