Should I do agar to speed up this grow?
    #21820410 - 06/17/15 07:30 PM (9 years, 6 months ago)

I inoculated jars 1 week ago with an MS syringe. No signs of any growth. Would it be worth my time to get clean mycelium growing on agar from the MS syringe to transfer to the jars, or will the end result time be about the same? I'm just afraid of the jars taking 2-3 weeks longer to fully colonize.  Thanks

This hobby takes time no matter what method you choose to employ. That said, agar is a lot of fun, start some up

I know, just afraid of jars taking forever. Wondering if agar could help. Might just do agar for fun and experience!
can you get clean mycelium on agar without having to isolate strains? I don't think I've seen that. Only seen isolation.

I have a good bit. Lol
I just didn't know if you can have multiple mycelium strains on a plate. As in, if you have to isolate it or not.

Yeah you're using multispore or "ms" as everyone else calls it, you don't have to isolate but you should definitely make a couple transfers to fresh agar plates to ensure you have only the desired mycelium on your plates after you get your ms to germinate.

you should always do agar, easy to learn and in the long run yes it saves time.
