Shroomtech?

Does anybody know what's in Onnit Shroomtech? Their site just says "cordycepts mushrooms, but that seems like a whole family of fungus. I've heard great things about the product, but don't like the price, if I can make it myself I will.

I'm pretty sure OutGrow has the cultures. Youd have to learn to process the grain and finished product. But seems doable enough.

I just googled their site. It says it is using cordyceps sinensis. Which means they probably buy powder that is produced from liquid culture, probably originating from Asia.

Aloha Medicinals uses either Milo or Millet, I can never keep those separate for some reason. So I would go with either of those. I also can't see why Brown Rice wouldn't be a feasible option.

I remember watching a cordyceps documentary that included a part showing where Aloha grows out their mycelium in liquid culture then drains it off to get pure mycelium - no grains involved...

Do you have a link to that? From every account I've read they use grain.

I didn't read whole text and I made a mistake. It does seem that ingredients originate from aloha, which means that cordyceps medicinals are probably made with grains (millet). If they didn't mention Aloha, they would probably be importing and most probably using liquid culture. Not that it makes much difference, just source is more trustworthy.

Aloha is the biggest organic myco supplement and spawn mfg in the country. They use milo or a millet/rice hull mix. Milo is just a sorghum grown for seeds. Bigger grains than millet. Amycel spawn, oyster anyway, is all millet.

Anyone know how they then separate the mycelium from the millet?

They don't. Apparently there's almost complete conversion to mycelium. The upper end of 90%.

Wow, that's super interesting. I'm just in the middle of moving so I won't be set up again for a couple weeks anyway. I'll start digging into it then. It becomes apparent how much of a pain in the ass this hobby can be once you have to move everything. I'm still not sure how I'm not going to kill 8 dozen wbs jars and hundreds of plates, while they sit in the back of a cube van for 24 hrs in July, but when there's a will there's a way. It's pretty heart wrenching having to toss everything that's already growing! How true do you guys think Outgrow is to their samples? I was reading that aloha had a hell of a time finding cultures that were genetically the same as the natural counterpart.

When it comes to edible/medicinal, OutGrow is my go to vendor. I haven't recieved anything wrong from them yet. Seems like a stand up company.
