Outdoor bed coming soon
    #21819803 - 06/17/15 05:02 PM (8 years, 7 months ago)

This is simply a place marker.

I tossed a great deal of questionable spawn. Multiple multiple 4qt bags. Well I didn't toss it I made a high ratio raised bed out of it. Not much at all unlike my last great bed. I used I don't know how many bricks of coir, something like 12-15.

I had all this shit laying around since I only grow oysters now and hated to keep taking up space. It may do nothing.

But then again it may be fucking epic.....

Simply made a base out of lumber, filled it with the last of my coir and hydrated, mixed a little Forrest debris in for good measure and filler and started dumping spawn.

Then I stripped down nekkid and jumped in my mushroom pit and proceeded to swim around to mix real well.

I then picked all the wbs out of my ass crack, covered the bed with about 4in of dead leaves and walked away like a boss.

I will update this to say it was a bust and I contributed to the local forestry ground compost or I will come back and show off.

I made it like my last bed except I added in moar badassery this time.

I've been waiting till it was done but I want to bring up my method here now. I can't wait anymore.

Why the fuck do people even bother with mixing spawn? It seems so obvious to me. Put fully colonized blocks out there! My new project is four of the largest tubs I could find filled to the top. No holes needed in these monos. When they are fully colonized I will dump them outside in an area that gets hit thoroughly multiple times a day by a sprinkler. I did this already with three tubs done the normal way 4 inches thick and it was my largest flush ever by far. The full tubs ought to blow that out of the water!

Anything worth doing is worth overdoing!

You can cover a 2x2 area with a tub or I can take that same amount of material and spread it out, let it grow for a week or two and cover a 10x10 area.

Next time you make a monotub (assuming you use one) don't break your spawn up, just stick it in some coir as a block and report back how it turns out.

People are concerned about their beds contaminating and dumping fully colonized blocks out takes care of the problem.

No one worries about outdoors beds contaminating. A fully colonized block is no more contam resistant thaan broken up fully colonized spawn.

I'm definitely down to try some different things outdoors while its hot enough. I feel like these above ground blocks are Perfect for me but I have a huge yard so I'm going to  go big

If the full size ones turn out as I think they will I just might post pics but generally speaking I don't do that. I'll post pics of new stuff to get an ID  occasionally but no cubes or bud or anything. It seems a lot more like evidence to me ya know?

If it's to the point where someone is investigating you its already too late. Just say "hey here are some pictures I found on the interwebz".  Jeez paranoid folks.

No one care about your couple ounces of shrooms when there's guys peddling meth to kids.

I usually mix 2 parts hydrated straw to one part sifted broken up manure. The parts are all each 3 gallon buckets.  So about 9 gallons worth all together.  I could be a little off. I gotta double check. Its a flower pot i use. I havent really done the math and just eye it. I add 3 quarts colonized grain spawn. I could prolly get away with less but it colonizes much faster with 3. Id do 4 but 3 seems to be good and allows me to stretch my grain further. I do it in these incriments as thats what the compost tumbler i use allows to fit without too much effort of turning. Mix it up real good and just throw on the ground about 4 to 5 inches thick. Its been like 2 weeks. Ive proly done about 20 batches of those increments so far.  I do like as many a day as i can or as much that the amount of spawn i have allows. I started out with loke 100 jars. Im waiting on the mext batch to colonoze but got quite a bit established while they come around.  Of different varietys though. And some beds were slightly contamed. Some beds are way further along than others. Ibe since stuck to G2Ging those varietys and stopped with the slow performers. See what happens. I did this last year on smaller scale and fared pretty well. I dont bother pasteurizing. Only thing i do aside from hydrate straw and mix is add dish soap to the straw while it hydrates. Everything seems to be coming along great. No contams. And yes. Mother nature is awesome. So easy and just let it go. Except for slugs everything is pretty simple. Still alot of work dont get me wrong. But less maintenance.

Wish wall o text.

The dry weight was in the pounds but I didn't keep track of it.

We need pics of your project as it sounds massive.
