Question about temperature, FAE, and pin formation.

From what I have gathered reading post(s) relating to the topic(s) of temperature, humidity and growth, I gather the general consensus here is that a temp around 70-75F and good FAE (holes in terrarium, freq fanning and so on) promote optimal growth. That said, I left town for two days, during which, the AC was off (leaving the temp 79-82F), and of course, I wasn't fanning. Oddly, when I returned home, I had a beautiful set of pins. So, then, my question is: is there some advantage in allowing the pf-cakes to sit in higher temperature without FAE for extended periods of time, or was my experience just a strange phenomenon? Thanks for any advice. Still new to all this.

I don't have all the info but I'd say you were keeping them too wet and them drying out a bit brought the pins.

Cubes are like a weed, they will grow in some pretty shitty and varied conditions. When it's said to keep them in the low/mid-70's range, that is just a point of reference. They will grow in colder or hotter, but you just run a higher risk of contamination as you raise the temperature past that ideal range for cubes.
Also, FAE is achieved by a proper fruiting chamber and environmental conditions not by fanning.
