I saw something kinda sad this morning... 1

I was having breakfast at one of my favorite greasy spoon diner when a group of 10 year old students came in with their teachers. They were celebrating the end of the school year with pizza.
These kids were all obviously immigrants from asia and the middle east. Special class or something.
Thats when I heard something kinda sad. One of the kids said it was the first time he's ever been in a restaurant before. He was speaking clear english without an accent so he's been here for a while. Then the teacher asked everybody that's never been in a restaurant to raise their hands. 80% of them raised their hands. That was like 20 kids from imigrants that was having their first restaurant experience (and this isn't a luxury restaurant at all)
It got me thinking. These people work all their lives to leave their shitty country to come to Canada and once they get here we take their cash, we don't recognize their diplomas and we leave them out there in total poverty making them a secondary class of people. Sure they get the health care and peace of mind that no bomb will blow up in their faces but I still find it horrible that doctors have to drive taxis and redo medical from scratch and have to pay higher tuition because they are immigrants. We are abusing people that came here to stop being abused.
I have discussed this with many of my roommates in the past (most of them immigrants) and they told me they had no idea that they would have to redo their university studies from scratch, that it would be more expensive because they could get an education and leave canada instead of letting the country profit from it (hedging the risk I guess). Basically they said to me "I came here with 75000$. I spent it all within 2 years and now I'm broke, halfway through a bachelors degree with kids to feed, can't get a job worth more than minimum salary despite the fact that I was an engineer in my home country...
They can't afford the simple luxury of having a slice of pizza at the restaurant with their kids once a month...
But hey, they got free healthcare!

In the US, they could afford pizza with minimum wage.
I'll take pizza over free healthcare any day!

Some of them it depends on where they studied. If it was a legitimate school then that sucks. But what if it was a school lacking much knowledge and educational standards that would otherwise not qualify in Canada and if they were to pursue an engineering degree they'd be ill equipped?

What's probably more sad is that so manypeople, many of which you might have grown up with, haven't ever sat down at home to a nice healthy home cooked meal. Or all the kids from Canada or America who go hungry every other night. That's what's sad. But we gloss right over what happens right in front of us and instead get all bleeding heart about a situation we really don't know anything about. Just because these kids haven't had pizza doesn't mean they're getting the short end of a stick...

That is very true.
