Can you id these NZ mushrooms please?
    #21817797 - 06/17/15 05:36 AM (8 years, 7 months ago)

Hi. Please can you help id these ones. They have been puzzling me for a while and I visited them for the 3rd time today. Thank you in advance for your help.

Location NZ top of the South Island. Shady area under mature trees and near flaxs. Soil a sandy clay mix with decayed fibrous and woody plant material. Could of been dredged from a stream.

Gills: From a pallid beige colour to a more of a milky brown coffee colour with the mature specimens.
Stem: Hollow at the top. Strong, fibrous and can be bent. Up to 5cm in length. Diameter 2mm to 4mm. White/cream colour in the younger ones. At the bottom of the stem more of a light brownish red esp. in the older ones. Lines down the stem. Stem darkened quite quickly.
Cap: Tacky and rubbery. Up to 3cm in diameter. Caramel/brown. Some a light yellow at the top and browner towards the edges. Changing to lighter colours as they dried.

Bruising: A light grey at the base of the stem on some.

Some of the stems were growing quite deep in the soil and some in cracks. One was growing on decayed wood and another on fibrous material. With others it was hard to tell as they all came out with some of the clay adhering. They had no perceivable smell. Spore print under way.

A quick one here if that's ok. Do you think these are turkey tails?

Hey Walts you could be on to it. Thanks. Damn little toxic pretenders :shakefist:  . Good practise though for an id request. I expect the spore print to be brown. Cheers.

p.s. Do any hallucinogenic Psilocybe species have brown spore prints?

Not entirely sure but from what I've read some species sprint a more brownish purple.

The spores look purple-brown to me. Did you take a print yet? It would help a lot.

Spore print under way. I'll have a look in the morning and then post.

I see brown bruising on that big one, not blue :frown:. Bad luck

They didn't print well unfortunately as they dried too fast. Over exposed I know. I tried all sorts of setting outside. It was a cloudy day.
