No one here grows actives anymore, so they're obviously 'distributing' oysters & beech.

This thread did go to hell. And it could have been a useful thread. A few members in here i know you could add a wealth of information on this topic. That's what you should have done. And we're talking about trich, not distribution. No proof is needed for hobby cultivation. Gather data from all your experience and of those on this site. When summer comes around, trich gets extra horny, just like us.
Chances are, everyone will encounter trich. So instead of endlessly answering stupid noob threads on the topic of saving a tub, this thread could have prevented some of those from existing. But no, won't happen. Why? Because of shit egos. I think a lot of you guys need to go make tea with 100 fresh grams of pe. Humble yourselves a little.
Desiderata - Words for Life
Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

In a manner of speaking this is correct. The reason being is that ambient environmental conditions favor the breeding of mold, and bacteria spores during the warm months, thus mold spores go up during the spring, and summer months, then taper off as the fall brings colder temperatures. If you live in a humid climate (like this cultivator) it's worse. Right now the mold, and tree pollen allergens are sitting at plus 90% in this ambient environment. During the cold months those alergen counts go WAY down to like 20%.

Here is an old one that had a small spot of trich. The trich was salted down. A paper towel was laid over the spot to soak up any pooling water. The tub was allowed to flush out. After this flush, the trich was isolated and removed. The piece was covered with a damp bleachwater soaked towel. Then cutout like a cake and removed with a spatula. The substrate itself was taken off of the liner and placed on a new liner in a clean tub. All of the work was done outside of the grow area. Still a decent yield and two more flushes. Surgery is an art form but it does work well. Newb's shouldn't suggest it to other newbs, but it is the LAST OPTION.
Thai Lipa Yai

this ape tub below had surgery prior to first flush, was dunked and made it to 4 flushes before it was tossed. the sub was cut out down to the bottom of the tub and removed. this is a touchy subject but if you use surgical precision you have a chance to completely isolate and remove the contam to salvage the substrate. you may also spread the contam and fail. its a 50/50 bet. but the way i look at it is im probably tossing this tub anyways so why not. you have to pay close attention and monitor the area the next few days after surgery. if the green comes back you may want to toss it. you may also end up doing a surgery again. it can be an uphill battle.
middle right you can see the cake size piece cut out. 2nd flush after a dunk.

here you can even see new fruits next to the area where the contam was cut out. bottom right.

same spot different angle

3rd flush and you can see the same missing piece. each flush had a 4-8 hour dunk.

4th flush same sub

in this last image you can see new pins growing on the contam areas that were removed. 3 flushes later new pins formed after a dunk.

This was an example of a tub that triched in two spots. Said user was lazy and chunked it after the contam was removed and the tub flushed. But as soon as you see the trich, if you take care of it on an established bed, often enough it can be caught in time to make a positive out of a negative. This does take a matter of skill level to achieve and can be done. This had been attempted several times with failure prior to positive results. But achieved with hard work. Most of the time, you won't need to do this but once a year.

How do you know salting alone wouldn't have worked just as well?
I doubt Trich can grow through that much salt. However the salt would probably need to make it all the way to the bottom of the tub to completely isolate it.

correct. a combination of both is used. salt, paper towel for pooling to halt the spread, then removal. removal is necessary if you plan on dunking a substrate between flushes. in this lab, dunks between flushes are used on cased and non cased substrates for rehydration. this is why the entire section is cut out. you can pour salt on the wound, but can you tell how deep that wound is from looking at the surface?
salt helps contain trich on the surface. but if the contam is deep in the substrate, cutting it like a cake is beneficial. generally this is only done on tubs that have small patches and huge flushes. ive lost a battle or two using pure salt. the combination of the bleach solution soaked paper towel, salt, gallon bag and spatula sound like a winner.
plans are being made to implement the gallon bag technique in the future. an entire wing division of the corporation is being dedicated to that now. when it hits mid july-august and the temperatures spike unexpectedly, grow room temperatures can get up to 85 degrees and cause problems.

After being plagued by trich all summer I finally have tubs that are producing mushrooms again. Last summer I was just barely starting, and I had success with mini monos of bucket tek coir/verm spawned with grated PF cakes. Then I started learning agar and pasteurization over the winter, and pulled off some nice grows in the spring.
This summer, I decided I would start experimenting with LC, and everything triched out except for 2 APE mini monos.
Now it's cooling off and I've returned to wedges and g2g, and everything is working wonderfully.
Whatever, the first year of this hobby is one big learning curve

@Eatyualive- Beautiful flushes, and great info! I haven't come across many successful surgeries.
