Highest Growing Temp for Pink Oysters
    #21816106 - 06/16/15 07:05 PM (8 years, 7 months ago)

I have tried to find an answer in previous post, but have been unable to find one. I have pink oyster spawned to straw and want to grow them in my garage. The temps may get up to 100 degrees on some days in there and maybe a bit more. So how much heat can pink oysters take?

Run foggers they will drop the Temp a bit.  Try to pull fresh air from the shady north side or other cool place.  Pinks will do fine.

Thanks for the feedback t3chno. I really don't want to mess with any extra equipment, but maybe they will do ok. I know they like heat, I just don't know how much they will tolerate. I guess I will find out and let everyone know for future reference.

I have grown reishi and blue oyster at these temps.  Quality is not great and colors can become washed out .  Not to mention you need to harvest 2-3x daily.  Things grow very fast when it's that hot.

I grow in my garage but I'm lucky as its attached and on the north side of the house on the first floor of a 2 story multiplex, and I'm the middle unit. My temps still get to almost 80F in there when its 100 out. I crack the garage door at night with a fan on when things are close to harvest or its a cold sub 70F night. When nothings in fruit or close to harvest ill open the door to my house at night allowing my HVAC to cool the garage too. Dont do the second method near harvest as you'll allow spores into your home. Either way you will need to vent the garage daily because it turns into a sauna in my garage quickly with the one cool mist humidifier +2 foggers going.

Things grow fast indeed Gr0wer! I put my spawned straw out there to colonize and I have never seen it grow so fast. Hopefully trich does not like those temps.

OK. The Unicorn bag I put out in the garage to colonize is only doing so-so. I made another little bag that is opaque and had small holes already around the bottom of it, and I come back from camping overnight, and that one is pinning. Not sure why such the difference in colonization speed. Temps in the garage have been between 100 and 75.

My commercial pink strain fruiting temps are 18-28C (65-82F). Never fruited it above 21C myself though with the UK weather forecast for next week that might change!

It's 96 F in there right now. I swear, When I left to go camping yesterday at like 5:30 pm, there was nothing, and when I got home today at 2pm they were pushing out of the holes in the bag. Crazy! As soon as the temps drop enough in the fall, I am going to try doing some king oyster out there. Can't wait! I have only eaten a few from the store and they were awesome.

OK. Now I have a different problem. They seem to like the temps well enough, but I noticed the caps are bumpy in appearance and have a blackish tint. They all look that way. My first though was "Shit! They grew through mold in the bag and now it's growing on them outside the bag!" I was gonna just toss the whole bag, but curiosity got to me and I cut the bag open to see what it looked like. No visible mold and smelled just fine. I have had bags mold when they were too wet and you can definitely smell it. So now I am confused. What the hell is going on?!

You have mushrooms growing.  Lions mane start out pink.  Pinks can have a brownish tint.

Update. They don't seem to get real big before the edges curl up and look ready to harvest, but they taste good.
