the whole bamboo thing is interesting, there's no real great domestic supply of anything bamboo here other than food channel cutting boards.

Neither over here. So if straw turns out to be a good sub then I will be all over it. Straw I can get in abundance

I have a bunch of bamboo flooring left over from when I  renovated my house. I'd like to try some out at some point. Maybe a mix of straw and bamboo sawdust.

Ganoderma neojaponicum is common on pine in China.

I thought this species was a recent find or is it more of a recent culture and a known species?

Really. I was told this culture was found on bamboo but, pine is super easy to come by here. I actually have a bag of pine fuel pellets kicking around somewhere.

Ganoderma neojaponicum was described in 1939. This culture from ATCC though was collected on bamboo, or so it says.

Ganoderma meredithae from the southern US also grows on pine, but I suspect G.meredithae is a synonym of G.curtisii since curtisii grows on pine and spruce in New England. If you have a curtisii culture I would say give it a try on pine.

These are going slow but steady. I am almost allowing myself to hope for spores eventually.

Pasty, what temp do you have them at? Remember, these are a tropical species so I'd suggest 85-90F.

Unfortunately the best I can do for these at the moment is mid 70's, getting pretty cool here. But they ain't stalled at least, I am almost starting to consider upping the FAE for them soon.

Thanks for the info.... I just recently found G. resinaceum growing on my purple sugar cane. I was just getting ready to try and  grow the neo-japonicum on it. Maybe I will add some pine to it. I was chopping it down for the pigs and cut it into pieces for them only to find a piece made it out of the pen. It was fruiting right off of a 9" x 1 inch piece of it just laying on the ground. Big blob of mycelium coming right out of it. I looked at the roots where I chopped it down and they were completely engulfed in mycelium and it was still trying to send shoots up. Freekin weird.
