Use them like large spawn jars, and also growing directly in like Aero guessed.
I have a small PC and have been PCing large amounts of grain and transferring hot grains to large tubs which would not fit in the PC. I then microwave them while still hot which should kill off any new airbourne contaminants that fell in them. You have to monitor moisture levels which is easily done by weighing.
It turned out they are 1.4L. I got more of them, they also have coconut covered chocolate ones which are even nicer, they are like coconut snowballs like these

My lidl has big buckets of carmaelized popcorn again, they are probably in all lidls with the 4th of july coming up. The lids are perfectly clear and base & lid are PP5.
It fits snugly into my PC, a prestige 6L high dome. I have one container which warped as I cooked it well past 15psi.
The popcorn is pretty good too

Wow that's a crazy idea. I wouldn't have thought about just using a snap on lid. I've only use glass jars.
Is it common to use plastic these days? I've been away from the hobby for a few years now.
Thinking about getting back into it.
Anyone know where I can get a flow hood? Or parts for a build?

I got my laminar panel in the UK from Jason Filtration. One of these. Not the cheapest in the world but its well made and its been working great.
I used the fan mentioned here.

never heard of that, these are just caramelized, no buttery taste so it is probably not in it. I hate that fake butter taste.

I have used it for years, seems to becoming even more popular nowadays. I used to hate my lids going rusty where I cut them, or jars breaking. Easy to drill plastic too. Loads of containers are PP5 these days, many ice cream ones are even though they do not need to be heat resistant.
Its often cheaper to buy full containers than empty ones of a similar size.
My next experiment will be using 2L PET coke bottles. They shrink in the heat and go soft but they only shrink to a certain degree, I have never boiled them for a very long time though. I am planning on making flexible filters to fit the neck which will shrink along with the bottle. The bottles will not be reusable but the filters will. I will just cut them open to get the colonised grains out.

Thanks Gray.
Wow I'm tempted to build exactly what you did. Though I'm thinking i might want something big enough to do g2g with spawn bags. I'd have to measure the bags I have(its been a while) to see how big they are. I miiight want to go a bit bigger but initial i was thinking 12x24".
Question though what are you using for the power supply? I couldn't find how many watts the fan is. That fans crazy just looks like a bad ass pc fan.

Blackout-
PET your crazy man! I would like to see that happen though just for the sake of science!
You seem to be my polar opposite. I avoid microwaves and plastic like AIDS. I don't even like using plastic syringes!

I do 2.5kg spawn bags with 12x24". It's not the most comfortable, but it's certainly possible.
That fan is a 12V DC 300cfm fan. It's this one. There's a link to the datasheet on that page.
Note though, that that fan can't drive more than 12x24 in those laminar panels I linked. The fan supports up to 13.8V and gives more grunt the more it gets up to that (see the graphs in the datasheet).
Personally I've not seen a 12V DC fan more powerful for a realistic price. It was about £28.
I used a power supply which is a bit overkill, but it's what I had. 51.38W 13.8V 3.5A This one.

Erm... I don't have any scientific method of quantifying the flow. But I've tested open Petri dishes all over the surface in front of it, I've had zero contams using it, and here's a quick photo of a lighter 12 inches from the front:
I'm really pleased with it to be honest. It's one of the few things I have no problems with

I was posting this in a thread about agar, if I didn't have a stock of dishes I would be looking into these.

I have gotten a few very clear PP5 containers recently, they were all larger than I would want for agar but I reckon there is a good container out there waiting to be found.
These ones look nice, it says transparent and some of their other items say "semi transparent", so its possibly the more clear type
http://www.ampulla.co.uk/Clear-Plastic-Food-Pots-&-Tubs/160ml-Clear-Round-Flat-Pot-and-Lid/p-206-1846/
here is a semitransparent one and it does look more cloudy, in the previous link you can see the stamping on the base pretty clearly http://www.ampulla.co.uk/Clear-Plastic-Food-Pots-&-Tubs/130ml-Clear-Square-Food-Pot-&-103mm-TE-Lid-/p-206-3531/

Here are a few links I've accumulated over the last few months/years. I know how much of a pain it can be trying to find some of the things people mention on here. There's a likelihood that these links have already been mentioned within the thread, so I apologise in advance if I re-link something somebody else has located and posted on here.
Anyway
Kerr 1/2 Pint Split Lid Mason Jars
80L Clear Storage Boxes
1L Kilner Split Lid Jars
2L Kilner Clip Top Jars
Digital Thermometer/Humidity Meter
Spore Syringes, Grow Equipment
Hope this helps someone, Thanks

A few weeks ago I decided to be done with micropore tape and get some proper filters for my lids, so purchased some off a big UK ebay mushroom gear supplier...Roll on to today Im walking around poundland and what do I see? the filters (alot cheaper)
http://www.poundland.co.uk/tommy-walsh-anti-skid-scratch-pads-125pc-pack
They seemed to have worked for me, so might be worth trying..You just use the fiber ones from the pack..Purchased a pack to compare and they are defo the item I was sent out, suppose they are something like the tek that irons out filters from pillow stuffing
