How are you trying to push the needle through? Are you just trying to push it through the center of the polyfill?

I usually go in from the side. I position the needle so that it is touching the lid near the polyfill -- maybe 1mm away, then move it to the hole, almost scraping the lid as it goes towards it. Seems to work quite well...

LOL This is why noobies get frustrated and confused, so many differing opinions.  It's also why imo you should pick a tek and follow it to the letter.  If it works, great, if not try again or pick another tek.

I make a 1/4" hole in the middle of my jar lids and two 1/8" holes on the sides 180 degrees apart.  Apply RTV silicone to the top and bottom of the center hole.  Use tyvek filter on top of the lid.
