ive actually never been able to get myself to eat wild shrooms, im very intimidated by them. i dont know what its going to take for me to eat it.
especially not when i can just take some mhrb spice and smoke it where i found it and pretend i ate it. lol
im just fascinated by the fact that the experience can just grow in nature like that. there are just too many variables for me to feel safe ingesting something unless it was a species which actually bruised blue and was clearly active.
or maybe i just need to grow some balls and eat it? i have a very conflicting relationship with the mushroom

I find, Gymnopilus Luteus only bruise when you dry them completely. They hardly bruise while fresh, maybe a tiny bit of blue or green, but hardly if not at all.
But you dry them fuckers, and they are a deep indigo blue. I have tripped on Gymnopilus Luteus 5-10 times, and it is the most wonderful dream like feeling ever, SO MUCH different than cubes.
Less visuals, they are more whispy, bright, but the body feeling is 100% dream euphoria. God like. giggly. Im waiting on this log to re grow so I can take spore prints and try and cultivate them.

By the way, I had searched all over town, all the nature reserves, wooded areas in my area, all of them. Had not found ANYTHING active. Until one day I walk outside my apartment to this tiny patch of woods, Im just walking on a trail, not looking for mushrooms. Yet I see to my left about 20ft away these pretty yellow mushrooms growing on a log.
They are rare it seems, yet they have foudn us both

hmm i might just eat it, im just scared of the wrong i.d., im no expert.... but i mean the trusted identifiers seem to agree with my finds, i think they would have let me know if something was up...
oh and how you found them is almost exactly how i found them!
i think the body high is so different because theyre reported to contain kavalactones, its like taking shrooms and kava-kava at once. i think ill end up eating it once its dry.
ive gotten a single piece to bruise from what i found two years ago. i took a stem, and mashed it as hard as i could between my fingers, then ripped it in half length wise. i put the pieces at the bottom of a plastic bag where they sat in their own juices. 12 hours later both of those stem pieces were BLUE i mean completely saturated blue, they dried up into little crispy black pieces.
my current find is probably almost dry, ill have to check on it.

Yea, well take a spore print, and if that checks out then go from there.

already have, got a thick rusty orange print from it. its the proper color, the only thing that concerns me is the annulus is not very persistent. there is an annular zone, and its located where it should be but im not seeing the classic red ring like in my other pictures. the gills appear to be notched, the stem is wood-like and fibrous, the cap is how it should be, and it smells like it should. everything checks out, i would love to put the spores or a piece of flesh under a microscope but unfortunately that isn't currently possible.
maybe i should eat some of the chicken of the woods thats fruiting everywhere and get over my phobia of wild mushies. idk, i feel like eventually i'll get it under a microscope and have a 100% i.d. and then id have no excuse to not consider a bioassay.

Hi guys, a couple things to ask/add to this thread;' firstly, ive found Heaps of rockin' yellow shrooms like that in the last week, at the risk of sounding like a flat stick novice, are they active and to what extent? If they're as good as i'd like them to be, i'll pick them from my front garden the second u give the word... next, what are the chances of u bringing me up to speed with these guys (pictured) and lastly, are all shrooms with blue colouring actives??... Thanks heaps guys

The ones that grew on the log, I harvested many times, probably got a full dry ounce+ between multiple harvests, NONE had an anulus/ring. The stems were bare. But they WERE luteus. Take a lil piece and put it in your mouth and hold it on/ or under your tongue for 5 mins. If that makes your mouth/tongue numb then it is poison.

It would be interesting to mix a non-active Gymnopilus with cubes to see if you get the same feeling.

Can u guys please tell which of the family these belong to?... They were grouped together in mulch that sat on top of a rich mushroom mix soil, mostly very covered by a thick leaved succulent plant... THanks heaps

im very sure ive read several times that kavalactones have been found in gyms. this would be consistent with the effects felt, it is reported to be a very mellow high. i would imagine that drinking a strong cup of kava waka and than taking cubes might be somewhere in the ballpark.
and if the inactive gyms could somehow alter the effects of cubensis, than wouldn't it be active in its own right?

Ive never heard kavalactones being in Gymnopilus species, but I have heard of a unique chemical called Gymnopilin.
Whatever it is, it produces a very unique, I agree mellow high. Its strong, but mellow vibes instead of intense.
And the potency varies, Ive had 20g fresh me and my cousin each had, we were flyin, and my cousin is 200+ pounds.

so this is on wiki
"Several species of Gymnopilus contain bis-noryangonin [4-hydroxy-6-(4-hydrostyryl)-2-pyrone] and hispidine [4-hydroxy-6-(3,4-dihydroxystyryl)-2-pyrone], which are closely related to the alpha-pyrones found in kava.[7]"
so again, drinking a strong cup of kava waka and taking cubes might be somewhat similar. lol
or you could maybe get pure bis-noryangonin and hispidine, theres probably a vendor whos got it.
ive heard of Gymnopilin-K, not sure what the k is supposed to stand for.
thats most likely speculation anyway, if those alks were already identified than it would be easy to assume any other mystery alks would have also been identified.
is there anywhere that will analyze this fruit? conclusively determine its contents?

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Now Im interested in researching Kava and getting some ordered. I plan to trip this weekend alone, meditation, and boy would I like some Kava to take with it to see if it will feel like Gyms.

I did 37g dry in 2 big ass cups of tea. I had about 8 hours of non-stop mellow good times. They were BLG, not lutes. I don't know if there is much of a difference in potency between G. junonius and G. Luteus, but I do love them both equally.
G Man, try to create a culture or you could always donate the print.
Note the G. Luteus in my avatar. I also have a few in my gallery.

Kava is hit and miss. It needs to be a good variety, grown in good conditions, sourced fresh, and prepared correctly. When it's good, it's awesome. The best method for preparation is to fill the foot portion of a nylon stocking and massage it by hand in about 2L water for 15-30 minutes until oil becomes obvious on the surface. It's labor intensive but worth it if your kava is good. It should taste like dirt and numb your mouth and throat. Using coconut water seems to produce stronger effects and tastes much better. Bad kava does cause serious nausea at active doses but I don't really know a good way to tell if a particular batch is good without trying it.
