Yes. Out of 535 members of congress, like 15 of them of them have negative net worth includind Rubio...
Then again....

You do not have to have negative net worth to not be considered wealthy and I don't want to break your heart but 5 million dollars at most of their ages as successful people is not impressive by any means.
Oh I knowthat 5 million isn't really impressive. There's what, 80% of the US population that retires with 5 million in the bank?

whoa, wait, 5 million net worth isn't poor at any age.
http://money.cnn.com/2014/03/14/news/economy/us-millionaires-households/

The number of U.S. households with a net worth of $1 million or more, excluding primary residence, rose to 9.63 million in 2013, according to a new report from Spectrem Group, a consulting and research firm.
9.63/318.9=.03019 so, about 3 percent. then again, thats comparing households to total population, and since household refers to at least 1 person(and probably 2) 1.5 percent is probably a better guess at the percentage of people who have a net worth of at least $1 million.

The median household net worth at retirement is $171,000.

What is the current interest rate being paid on 5 million dollars? 200,000 a year? That aint shit. We couldn't retire on it. That figure is their total assets which includes home equity and retirement accounts and investment accounts. Kerry and McCain are rich as fuck because they married money

I try to find the data later, but I wouldn't be surprised if $5 million net worth at age 65 would be in the 96th-98th percentile. 344K is the 70th percentile.
The top 1% have a net worth of 8.4 million and higher. So I would guess $5 million net worth is better than about 98% of the country.

So, one million will put you in the top 3%.
Oh households. Fuck how many households are there.

It's not an asset you can use to fund retirement if you are living in it.
I agree it's kinda stupid not to include it. But it is not a liquid asset.

a good illustration of the average earning potential in america. (i chose this paragraph more because the numbers were conveniently right next to each other rather than any political significance)
http://www.usnews.com/education/best-colleges/articles/2011/08/05/how-higher-education-affects-lifetime-salary

The data suggests that a glass ceiling is still firmly in place in America's workforce. Across all industries, on average, women have to attain a Ph.D to earn more in their lifetimes ($2.86 million) than men who have only attained a bachelor's degree ($2.60 million). Similarly, women with bachelor's degrees earn nearly the same—about $1.90 million—over the course of their careers as men with some college experience but no degree.

i disagree, alot of people buy expensive homes as a way to hide or protect money. Then when u retire u sell, and move into a normal house
