Holy fuck this game looks awesome. The chainsaw is so gory! The monsters start to split apart and you can see their insides. So fucking awesome I can't wait.

Welp. It certainly looks violent.
I had no problem with doom until I got attacked by babies in doom 3. I was in a horrible state for the experience and was caught off guard completely.

I just hope the gameplay lives up to the standards I've come to expect from the years of ID software owning the engine market. After quake 3 though they started going downhill IMO, especially when they just put all their effort into making engines for other people to license, and then sort of fell out of the lead chair as other companies also started coming up with awesome engines but had good games on them to boot.
The doom/quake series has been known for its multiplayer but Doom 3 was suckass IMO. If this new Doom can barely support 4v4 or 8 players total then its a failure and needs to be adjusted until they can at least get a 16 player deathmatch going. I remember when doom 3 came out it was epic fail when it came to trying to deathmatch.

Actually the CEO of id Software said they never made their engines with the intention of making money off licensees, they merely didn't think it was worth making a whole new engine for one new game, so they started licensing them out. They were hardly successful compared to Unreal Engine, although Q3A engine was on top during that era. They acknowledge this in the interview too, saying they were never trying to be like Epic Games, but kudos to them...
It's funny how people say id Software games are just tech demos to sell their engines, when they had no intention of being successful like that. Nowadays only companies owned by Bethesda can use the engines, hence you get Wolfenstein New Order using id Tech 5, but you won't see any non-Bethesda titles using it.
Epic nerd here.

Well whether they intended to go that route or not they still went it. I dont have anything against them selling their engines out of course, duh, its an awesome product. I just am sadface that they sort of fell off the game making wagon somewhere after they got REAL big. I cant claim to truly know the reasons of course, I mean hell, carmack was a rockstar at that point so maybe he was just busy fucking bitches and snorting coke while they dressed up like cacodemons and imps. *shrug* IDSoftware was like my mario brothers so it really stuck out to me that something was amiss with their company after quake 3. But I love their stuff so its not like im hatin on em, I just want to see them start coming back to their glory days of epic game design (not epic the company).
I'm not sure at this point they will honestly have anything 'technically superior' engine wise to other companies as the market is so saturated and so large with lots of access to info direct from GPU manufacturers, etc. Back in the day physics and crazy graphics were pretty reliant on the game programmer figuring out a way to do it, where as now a days most effects and stuff come as API's from nvidia or AMD. Like "heres the god rays api code/plugin, stick it in your engine of choice".
I am glad however that if anyone picked them up, it was bethesda. They seem to be pretty good when it comes to making sure their games are quality and they are not just pumping out super fast year after year of shit on shit like some *COUGH*EA*COUGH* do. hehe.

Thread necromancy, mwahaha!
You may or may not be discouraged to know that closed Alpha announced for this weekend is only testing server loads up to 6v6 as their "real world conditions." No idea if they will go a step further in future tests or release.
