Pc leak, always something

So all of a sudden my 23qt won't form a seal. It's not the gasket I've rotated and flipped it. I can tell where its leaking from but dunno wtf to do about it or how it happened.
Visually there's no burrs or anything but its like it ever so slightly warped. It wasn't dropped or struck or anything of this nature.
I'm not so concerned of how it happened but if there's anything to be done about it because at this point it is dead in the water.

try putting mineral oil on the o ring. sometimes that helps it complete a seal. my PC leaks a bit, too. its not a big deal, it still reaches pressure and holds it. i just put an extra quart of water in there

Yeah, I dip a paper towel in vegetable oil and give the seal a slight coating every few PC runs.

It's not the gasket. It's been oiled lately and is in good shape. I rotated it 180° and flipped it and it is leaking from the same spot.
The metal has slightly warped somehow. It's enough of a leak where it screams. I run 3-3.5hr cycles and that will not suffice

This might sound stupid but I was having the same problem a few weeks ago when I started using a new PC. I adjusted the o ring several times but it just wouldn't seal. Finally I realized that one of the burners on my stove was crooked. When I fixed the burner so that the PC was sitting completely level during the cycle it worked fine.

Same burner same pc. It just all of a sudden went wonky.
Wish I could find an AA75x for about $650 I would go ahead and get it.

Maybe one of the metal lock lips on the lid or pan is bent a little so its not pulling down tight when the lid is locked

As I've stated I have a cheap "rocker" pc and it works just fine. Give it a shot- see what happens.

What does having a rocker have to do with it? Yeah im just gonna run it wide open and see if I can get it to seat.
I'll report back if I blow up and die.

bummer...well, i can tell you that i'm not all that pleased in my $700 investment in the AA75x. I would just as quickly by an equally sized AA pressure cooker without the built in element for 1/5th the cost. It doesn't have as much space as I thought it would and its not that much easier to use than my Presto 22 quart cooker except it doesn't have a rocker to drive me nuts with....

I like the idea of it not making a ton of noise and not tying up my stove. I imagine with a 75x I can run it on a mechanical timer as well letting me go about other business such as making more oysters.
Do you use bags or jars in it and what do you fit?

the AA75x pulls a lot of amps and because of the shoddy wiring in my house, i have to turn off my refrigerator and my flow hood in my lab to run the autoclave without blowing a fuse. you still have to keep an eye on it and make sure the pressure doesn't get too high, and the timer built into it only goes up to 60 minutes, so i use my cell phone. it fits 2 more quarts than my 22 quart presto, which i think fit 9. it fits 4 1800g substrate bags (my sub isn't very dense) which is the same as my presto just with a little more space around them. its slightly taller and slightly wider. if i were to make the purchase again, i think i would buy a hot plate and a stovetop autoclave instead. its not bad, though. just not worth $700 in my opinion

I've rarely found a hotplate that would run a 941pc.
I've debated just getting a pc but I want to not have to fiddle with the heat for the whole cycle. I was under the impression that once you dialed it in you could set the knob and walk away.

yea, you can pretty much set it and walk away. i check in on it a few times after i close the pressure valve to make sure its turning off at the same pressure that it did the last time i used it. and then you go in and start your timer when it reaches the proper pressure. its very simple. so is the stovetop PC, though. i didn't think about a hotplace not being powerful enough for a large PC....figured they would have the same kind of output as a stovetop. no?

No. In the US your stove is 220, the hot plates are 110v.
There are some that are 1200w and MAY work but I'm not spending the cash on a pc and plate combo to have it not work.

i see...i suppose that makes the AA75x more valuable in that case. i'm sure its more efficient with the element in the water instead of under the pot...i found one for $650 on ebay and it cost $75 to ship. i was looking for 9 months, though

Have you thought of getting a cheap stand-alone propane burner for $30 and a solenoid valve with timer?

I have several outdoor burners but I know nothing of this solenoid you speak.
Also on the main note: a blowtorch and a hammer later I have fixed my pc. DO NOT TRY THAT AT HOME KIDS.

A solenoid is like a gate valve that shuts off electrically (when the timer tells it to). You can put one of these on your gas line to your burner, set it for 2 hours and walk away.

Disclaimer: I have no actual experience with solenoids.

Problem I would have with a burner and a pc is dialing in the gas right. My outdoor burners have little between off and full blast.

You want to heat it up initially at first? Solution:
1)put a solenoid on the line, set to open for 2 hours,
2) then put in a 'y' connector to your gas line. Now you have 2 gas lines coming from one propane tank. Put a ball valve(or other appropriate valve) on both lines.
3)Adjust the valves: one for high heat, one for low heat (to keep it at 15 psi when it's hot).
4)Put a solenoid valve on the line with the high heat. Set the timer on the solenoid valve to open the gas line for 30 minutes or however long it usually takes to heat up. Once that valve shuts the low heat valve is still open.
5)Join the 2 lines back together with another y connector and connect that line to your stove. Stove valve is on full open all the time.
--- bodhisatta: why is slow heat better?

Since when? I thought we usually crank stuff up on high and keep it there to vent and build pressure and turn it down to the "maintenance" temp once our target pressure is reached?

because we're not sterilizing liquid, we're sterilizing hydrated grain. PC times for liquids like in canning foods (hence why they always tell you to make sure the liquid is filled up to near the top) or agar require far shorter sterilization times. grains don't homogenize heat like a liquid media does. the slower you bring it up the grains are all at sterilization temperature by the time you are at pressure. the steam does penetrate but there's no reason to rush things when the cycle is already more than a couple hours if you include heat up and cool down then there's really no good reason not to spend a couple extra minutes doing things better.
and yes you can turn it up a bit to get to boiling to get steam to come out but once you put the weight on you should throttle it back then, obviously people do it the fast way but I just find it slightly inferior myself.

I still don't see the advantage.
Let's say you spend 1 hour to come up slow, then 15psi for 1.5 hours.
You could also spend 30 minutes coming up fast, and 2 hours at 15psi.
I'd guess the second method is more efficient and effective.

it really doesn't matter too much, I just don't like to go full throttle to get to pressure it takes what 10 minutes instead of 6 at full blast. I do grains 2 hours at 15 anyway.
