just launched BRF and grain (first time)
    #21809147 - 06/15/15 03:14 AM (8 years, 7 months ago)

hi,

I hope I didn't go too quick..

BRF:
I just had very coarse vermiculite, that I rubbed between my hands to make it smaller. I used following RR's videos 1 part BRF, 1 part water, 2 parts vermiculite, to realize there was way too much water because of the coarse verm. So I added verm until I had something that looked good to me. Then PC 90mn, 15 psi, let cool, syringe spore inoculation of Z-strain in SAB.

Grain:
Let the rye berries soak 1 hour, boil 10mn with a pinch of crushed-solidified plaster (to replace gypsum that I can't find), let them dry externally, do the paper towel test, fill the jars, PC 90mn 15psi, let cool, inoculate with syringe of liquid culture of amazonian in SAB through self healing inoculation holes, 5mL 0.5mL per jar. Shook the jars. Gas exchange allowed through 2 micropore-taped holes.

All that is at room temperature 72°F with indirect sunlight.
Any mistakes? remarks?
When should I see the first signs of growth?

Verm is verm, you should have just waited a while until all the moisture was absorbed.

gypsum is gypsum

WAY too much.  Max of 2ml unless your inoculation sub is dry.

A little low but you probably won't have contams at this temp.  It'll just take a week longer.

Earliest is 3 days, with your temps probably 7-10 days.

sorry, I meant 0.5mL

well, I'll know about the verm next time.
I have read that plaster is anhydrous calcium sulfate and some people here make calcium sulfate aka gypsum by hydrating plaster and crush it when it is solidified. I hope it is not going to mess these jars.

thanks that's helpful :-)

so after 3 weeks with no signs of growth at all, I reinoculated with a spore syringe that I made from a spore print (that I got from the results of my stem butt experiment)

this one I'm not too sure, it doesn't seem to be the same color as the others..

I see some wet spot in the grain, how bad could it be on the mushroom's health and consumer's health do ya think? (do ya know I mean :tongue2:)

Any feedback I could learn from guys? (still my first PF and grain tek )

cheers
