Mr. Top Hats new lab need ideas

So it has been a while guys. Long time no see. I have been super busy and have not been able to post in a long while. A lot of bad shit has happened over the past year but things just got good. Due to a huge fuck up with the company I was working for I got a good settlement that got me a house and allows me to get some equipment that I have always wanted for this hobby. My new house has no ac but has temp controlled window units and the room I plan to set up as a lab if you want to call it that is just a standard bedroom. The house is small but its better than what I had to work with before. I am highly interested in ideas for what would be good to have. I have a budget of 5000. A must that I want is a flow hood. I haven't done much research into them since I knew I could not afford one but now that I can I will be researching them more and more. Now I have not moved yet I do that in a week so I have no pictures of the room that I will be using but when I said its a standard bedroom its just a standard bedroom spare one we got in the house. I also have something I have never had in my life a yard so I plan to do some outside work as well. Get me a nice garden going on.
Thanks for all the help guys and it feels good to be back on the shroomery.

Congratulations on the settlement and the ability get a new house and invest in your hobby.
I've never owned a SAB but I'd still recommend a true HEPA air purifier (NOT a 'HEPA-type'). Not only for mycology but just for general use in your home. You can never be too careful with sterile conditions.
Welcome!

Thanks, it has been a long road and a long time coming. But to get back to the topic.
I have made a short list of things that I want and could use.
Shelves to house my jars and bags
All american pressure cooker. I have a presto but it can only hold a few qt sized jars.
20 new 66qt totes my old ones are getting really ratty and busted time to ditch them.
and a laminar flow hood. This is the big one for me. I dont know much about flow hoods but I am sure the search engine here will help provide and enlighten me but I would be willing to take any advice anyone is willing to give on one of them e.g where to get one. I am not much of a DIY person when it comes to construction.

If you have a house and a yard, you should think about a greenhouse dude.

I do eventually want to get something going but where i am at is very rainy lots of lake effect. I would rather keep things indoors for better monitoring. I do plan to do a garden outside and possibly some outdoor grows but not right away.

A 24" x 24" flowhood, real scalpel, blades for the scalpel, a big stock of agar, a few cases of petris, a few cases of slants, a bacticinerator, tubs, gloves, fucktons of iso, surgical masks, many Tyvek sleeves, many nitrile gloves, a couple lamps and CFL bulbs, shelving for jars (just stack tubs on the floor, it's more efficient), a stock of substrates.
I think that'd be a start.

Yes it is carpeted. I am still debating if i want to have carpet pulled out of the room and do some hardwood floors in there before i turn it into my new space. Its brand new carpet so tearing it out would upset my better half but ill do what i need to do.

What a list sounds about right though.

Welcome!
If you care about sterile conditions you should build a SAB. Hepa filters are nice for your home, but they don't even begin to compare to doing your work in still air or under laminar flow.

Rip the carpets out. Paint with high gloss.

He's already planning on buying a laminar flow hood. My suggestion was to ALSO buy a HEPA air filtration unit.

Even if you own a hood you should have a sab for working with dirty specimens.
A room filtration device does nothing but good. Don't rely on it obviously but the more filtered air you can get in your workspace the better.

Please learn to build it yourself so you can troubleshoot and repair it yourself when need be.

Create a nice little lab, rip out the carpet and put down something easier to keep clean. Have a mini fridge for cultures. Get a nice metal desk to work on. Build a large flow hood. Get some petridishs, Scaples, alchol lamp. Build shelving to hold bags and jars. Invest in a ton of supplies. Coir, verm, whatever....
Then for fruiting. make this http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/20660285/fpart/1
