so as our technological capabilities increase, we're often faced with ethical questions about science. i just was sitting here and a thought popped into my head,
. if we come to a point in biology where we can identify the genes needed and proper arrangement to make humans that are grown in labs but shaped really differently, for specific tasks. for example at random, what if we figure out what causes mutations such as people being born with extra fingers, figure out how to manipulate it and breed humans that will have lots of fingers on each hand, and then raise them into jobs like thew fastest computer coder on the planet.
and why not just perfect one and then make clones of him and have 30 perfect coders?
i mean we're getting closer to the point where people outside of labs, just average populations will have the option to choose their babies gender, eye colour, hair colour, etc.
so like if you decide to be come a parent, and the technology is advanced enough that you could choose your child's traits to a very specific level, like create a born athlete or a born Einstein, or da vinchi, or, an amazing painter, or what the fuck ever, if you could cut the randomness out of life a bit more, would you do it?
if this became the norm, industry market stock value would be determined on how many born athletes and builders and etc are being born in a specific time range. because alot of these job markets would be taken by those that had parents choose to alter their baby.
is it unethical to customize your child on a genetic level?
and on my first topic, is it unethical to make custom genetic humans that are inherently well "freaks" for legitimate purposes?
discuss intelligently

Yeah, its kinda unethical, but wouldn't stop most people from doing it.

You ever watch Gattica OP? It is a sci fi movie that talks about some of what you are pondering.

I think the human brain is too complex to tell which genes turn on what etc. There must be millions of possible sequences.

maybe this is how humans will evolve finally, when we manipulate them into doing so

i´m sure we´ll see these kinds of things eventually but not before simple changes like health and longevity traits... and if ever we´ll get to design genes in such a way such changes would probably be for necessity rather then "how cool it would be to have extra fingers" or sophisticated augmentation such as extra senses or augmented senses.
i´ve been reading some sci fy about this lately... really enjoying this author (Peter F Hamilton - the dawn trilogy... i highly recommend, that and Fallen Dragon!)

What if it will be very expensive? I can see a priviliged few getting all the benefits, while us poor bastards will probably try to exterminate these unnatural men.
Who knows?

It's unethical as he'll, but it will happen. When humans need to travel light years through space and generations live and die on spaceships to escape our exploding sun, we will lose the need for legs. Zero gravity negates a need to walk or stand. Geneticists will give us more arms instead like a Hindu goddess.
