Science, Letting go, Meditation and Creativity...
    #2180835 - 12/15/03 08:33 PM (20 years, 3 months ago)

I just had an interview on the phone and had to answer a question
in 60 seconds. Of course, with my anxiety, I couldn't answer the
question, and felt awful, but as soon as I put the phone down
and looked over the problem for a few minutes I realized the
solution (I actually called the person back and told him, but, of
course, he thought I called a friend or something). Anyhoos, my
question is whether there is any evidence the meditation helps
focus on such types of scientific thought where time is of the
essence and anxiety is high...
I know that Einstein meditated but I'm not sure if he said that it
helped him and also not sure how it helped (i.e. whether it helps
speed/focus of thought in addition to the more ambiguous "creativity").
If anyone has links to studies that would be appreciated.

the more you concentrate, the slower time goes relative to you. you are given more time to do things and think (i believe this is what causes time dialation while tripping).

if you can focus completely on something, without thinking about anything else (anybody see the last samurai, thereis one scene where the guy mentions it), you do it perfectly (of course, perfectly is perfect to you, as there is no set standard for perfect) and much more time efficiently.

so i believe.

Meditation helps create a calm and centered mind. If we abide within a calm and centered mind for long periods, we become familiar with calm centeredness and are less susceptibe to the mentally destabilizing effects of anxiety.
