Another dehydrator question - temp and time

I just bought a dehydrator and put my first batch in, following the 'golden rule' of 95F/35C, as I haven't been able to find a definitive answer on whether heat ruins potency. So far they've been drying for about 36 hours and they are still bendy as fk, and certainly not cracker. I'm thinking of cranking the temperature up, the thing can go as high as 154F/68C, would this be advisable?
Thanks.

160 at like 10-12 hours is a good starting point. You can check em at that point and see how sturdy the stems are. You want them as hard and dry as they can possibly get, so if in doubt, throw another 2-3 hours on there and test them again. Pinch the stipe near where it connects to the cap, that's where it usually hides its last bit of moisture.

Crank up the heat and dry them quicker. I run my dehydrator at 125F and have cracker dry mushies in about 8 hrs.

You can do them 24 hours without hurting them so, like I said, overshoot the first time and you'll figure out your dehydrator and how it works. Lower trays dry way faster of course.

Sweet, thanks for the advice, I've just cranked this bad boy up to 154F/68C, hopefully that dries em out a bit quicker.
I've also just noticed with a previous batch that I dried in front of a heater that they are no longer cracker dry...they were when I packaged them into ziplock bags with desiccant, now they've gone a bit bendy, is this normal?

8 hours at 150+ isn't enough for pretty much every shroom that I pull off of a substrate
I do at least 12 at 160F some big guys need to be cut in half or go closer to 18+

This is the answer to your question, although indirectly. If they didn't stay dry, they weren't really dry. Hence the extra hours.

I over looked a few semi-wet mushies and put them in a bag with some that were already dry. I pulled the bag out a day later and everything was kind of damp. All i did was throw them all back on the dehydrator to finish up drying. Thank god i caught them in time or else it would of molded.
My point, they probably weren't 100% dry. Try re-drying them.

Ok I'm going to go against the current here and say what I've wanted to say for a long time.
When you dry at 160 your shrooms look dark and whithered and shitty.
When you dry on lower temps like 100 to 115 they keep their golden shiny caps and their natural beauty.
160 may be fine for drying but they sure as shit look a lot better when you dry on lower temps. I don't ever really see a time difference between 115 and 160 either. 160 is just shy of the temperature you need to cook raw chicken. Were not cooking meat. If appearance doesn't mean anything to you then dry super hot but it's absolutely not necessary and lower temps make them look more appetizing.

Mine look white as day when I dry them at 160.
In fact, when I dry them at lower temps they blue the fuck up sometimes, so, again

at 160f they appear cracker dry before they really are cracker dry through and through but I like what 160F does for them. I don't have a problem with the appearance, for edible species a lower temp may be quite a bit more desirable for cosmetics.

Thanks heaps for the help everyone. I re-dried all the ones I could find that weren't cracker at 154F/68C (the highest setting) and they are all good now after another 12hrs.
