B+ QUESTION
    #2180594 - 12/15/03 09:00 PM (13 years, 5 months ago)

I have three fully colonized b+ cakes which I am planning to case tomorrow following the casing 101 for dummies tek. After I set the casing up should is it okay if i mist some water on the casing itself and also on the walls of the fruiting chamber? It's really hot in the room like about 75 degrees. Should the casing be in complete darkness? HAS ANYONE HAD LUCK WITH B+'s? I have one really rock hard yet fully colonized b+ birthday cake which is in a fruiting chamber with perlite and water at the bottom and its been 4 days but even though I am misting and airing the cake looks kinda dry. Any ideas for improvement?

hey, the casing material itself will give you plenty of water, no need to mist it directly until its colonized. 75 isn't really that hot, you should be colonizing at about 85 and fruiting around 75. When the casing is colonizing you want it to be bettween 50-70% humitidy so you could mist the walls of the container occationally if you want to but you dont want water dripping off the walls. When you put the casing into fruiting the humidity should be 90+% so mist the walls heavy and mist over top of the casing, not directly on it. If ur cakes look dry, just mist and add perlite till the walls of ur fruiting chamber sweat.

Keep the humidity high enough that the walls stay moist. The temps still need to be in the 80's and in the dark. Dont fan tomuch either let the CO2 levels remain elevated until the casing is fully colonized then start adding fresh air daily. Donot mist the casing directly for one, it can seal the casing and block mycelia growth. 2nd, it can damage tiny pin heads you may not be able to see. Mist the walls of your growing chamber. bluhoney

this guy just got his first flush of B+ and got 26 grams, they will start to pin on after 10 days roughly, just keep fanning for 20 seconds 3 times a day and mist them with the peroxide mixed distilled water 2 times a day lightly.
