I call bullshit.
No genre holds that title.
Some of the better underground rap I agree with rapeutic. Comparing mainstream music, no way. Talent wise I don't think any genre takes it, rap definitely takes a lot of talent but so does playing an instrument.
Been wanting to post this vid for a while so Imma use it as an example
He's alright, if you want an example of intense lyrical complexity and flow schemes that would make Biggie's head spin, check out Busdriver.

This is also very true. The ACT was all about time management. All the fuck heads I knew thought they were going to do well cause they took the most adderal that morning, while I knew I scored good because I actually managed my time well enough to answer almost all the questions to the best of my ability.

A tid bit:

...the school with the highest average SAT score happened to be Caltech, shockingly enough. And Caltech students' favorite band, as indicated by their Facebook pages, is Radiohead. But since Caltech has fewer students than plenty of larger schools, Radiohead doesn't get too huge of a bump on the big chart. According to Griffith's chart, the smartest kids' favorite musician, by a ridiculously huge margin, is Beethoven (average SAT score: 1371). Other smart kid favorites: Sufjan Stevens, U2, Radiohead. The dumbest kids' favorite, meanwhile, is Lil Wayne (average score: 889). Other dumb kid favorites: Beyonce, T.I., Ludacris.
For his part, Griffith doesn't claim that the chart is any sort of definitive IQ-map: As he told The Wall Street Journal, "Their unity is hilarity incarnate. This is to inspire people to think creatively about the data sets that are on the Internet ... Of course there is the whole correlation is not causation thing, but, I mean, duh." Spoken like a true Sufjan fan. LINK

100%
Rap can be real without being serious. You can also make any kind of music rap music. Anything. Nothing is more versatile. Rappers can even sing and it's still a rap song. You can get more of a message in to a rap song than any other genre as well.

You guys are crazy. Yes some rappers are talented and you can convey messages pretty well lyrically that way but guess what?
Poetry has been around forever, and people have been conveying their messages through poetry forever.
What the hell makes rap special in any way?
Someone can make a shitty beat and rhyme over it and bam they made a rap song.
Practically any other genre takes more effort musically, and can be just as poetic.

I'd guess it's mostly a love-hate thing with him. That song is (IMO) a fine example for that particular concept album, but each (album) has a pretty distinct sound. More typical for lack of better terms folk/indie here, a mostly electronic 2011(?), and just released a new one this year.

First of all their is more to music than beat and lyrics.
Secondly music is not confined to genres.
There is tons of rap with horrendously shitty beats and lyrics...
Just like there are tons of other genres with both very poetic lyrics and simpler/ worse stuff.
Nice Psycho, I may have to check that list out for shits and giggles :lol
