??????BRF/VERM CAKES WITH VERMICULAITE STILL ON TOP????????

After 5 weeks the jars either stalled or started pinning but very little. There hasn't been any action in a week or so, so I figured time to move on to the next step.
These are 1/4 pint jars and when I took the cakes out vermiculite was still stuck on top. I tried to scrape it away on 1 of them but I was unable to so I aborted.
They are in a bowl of water now dunking. Do these look ok? Is that some of the dry layer that got stuck? Any feedback appreciated! Why is this so hard?!?!?

It does happen and do pay to much mind to it.
After the dunk the cake will be soft, run it under a tap of cool water and rub it with your hands. Allow any pieces that come off easy to wash away. Be careful not to be to aggressive with it.
Roll in some verm, place in your FC, you will do fine.
One thing I forgot to mention is, the mycelium will never grow on the verm. The verm on top only acts as a filter.

Most of the time it won't... but I have had aggressive strains colonize the verm layer on more than one occasion.

It definitely grows through it more often if you use coarse . I always scrape it off after birthing if this does happen just for sake of if there is any unwanteds that dropped in there , I dont want them on the bottom of a moist piece of foil or casing if you apply a Double end. So I always scrape away anything thats not cake.
Im not sure what other people do but I have done things a certain way for so long that I dont change it. And my cakes are used as spawn now anyways so even more reason to scrape that layer as its going into a new substrate.

Your correct, my wording in the sentence was poor. I have had it happen a few times.
