***Updated ** Quick video on making lids,
step 1 Cut out heavy duty EZ felt to small squares, slightly larger then the hole you're melting.
step 2 Heat up a small 1/4" socket on a extension enough where it will melt the plastic. Once it pokes through let it sit there and allow it to melt a nice bead of plastic around the hole circumference, this is how you attach the filter patches. WEAR GLOVES i burnt the shit out of my hand on molten plastic and found myself running to my humidifier to dunk my hand.
step 3 Quickly place a piece EZ felt on the molten ring and mush the molten backside onto the felt.
Done!

I was eyeballing a 100pk filter disks and realized i had all this tyvek on hand that i don't use. Tyvek, craft felt and synthetic filter disks would all work well with this method. If i was using craft felt i probably wouldn't put it on top and bottom, just on top.

I only used tyvek as a one time deal. Fucked after it gets wet a few times. Nice looking lids though.

if your polyfil falls out you didn't do it right. you should have to yank on it with a pair of needle nose pliers to get it out of your lid.
tyvek<polyfil<ezfelt<cellulose SFD<PTFE SFD
lids rust, scrub the rust off

I'd say don't cut. I heard that it can ruin the fibers, and thus the integrity of the filter disc.

You should look at a disc through a scope before and after you cut it up. I just recently heard it can ruin the fibers of the disc and would like to know if it's true. I wish I had a scope

bod has a sweet scope it would appear. is that something you could confirm/deny on the sfds integrity visually?

You should be able to. Even add some cube spores to see size comparison.

Updated OP and added video. Now use heavy duty EZ felt and it's been working great for months now.

Nice vid man, really easy to follow! Do you find that EZ felt is superior to other filters? I used to make SFD cutouts and adhere them to the lid with silicone. Now I just use polyfill, and my colonization rates are about the same.

I never tried the SFD, I see no reason to spend the money when this works. I would imagine it would work just as well? I found silicone to come loose over time even when i scuff up the lids with sandpaper first.

Yeah, after a couple of PC runs, it's kind of easy to peel it back, which is definitely not good. What size hole do you use for your lid? I've always used 1/4".
