What up kneegrows Every spring I tell you fellows Not to sing When you welcome summer Cause it's a bummer When the ol trich Steals away your dick
So typically when i got trich before pinning, i tossed the tubs. I tried saving some here and there. But generally it wasn't worth it. But when you throw away 15 tubs in a few days, you have to save a few. I don't grow actives anymore, but i found these pics. Trich was removed after it sprulated and before any pins formed
The trick to cutting out trick is to get it all!! I used a few gallon size ziploc bags inside out as a makeshift glove to scoop it up. The bag is nce because you can immediately seal it up. A few bags are that necessary. Under the trich spores, deep in the substrate, it will be wetter and darker. That's all trich infestation. Dig it all out until the sub looks clean. You'll see what I'm talking about. Good luck guys.

I just fed my one an only PE tub to the trich monsters...
I had my first flush and it was good. I was waiting and waiting for the second coming - not trich any where but you know... it got damn hot here (for here). It is supposed to be in the high 70s and low 80s for the next week - so I said
"Dicks, I is gonna set you free"
So I took that tub and made a nice shallow hole in my lawn trimmings in the back yard and laid my substrate gently down then covered it over with old grass clippings and then watered the whole thing down. My guess is a few of those dicks just might like the change of scenery and pop up in spite of all the trich that must be in that pile of composting grass clippings...

I've got substrates from April that still wont contaminate. I haven't seen the mean green in a while, you think straw and coir are just less susceptible? I've got all of my windows open for weeks now too. And I fruit open/semi-open air.
Avoidance is always best never successfully cut trich out but I only tried a few times maybe I need more trich cut practice, or I was just new back then.

I've had some great second, and third, flushes, after trych. Especially if caught before it's green. I get it out of my fruiting room ASAP, cover the spot right away, with a peroxided paper towel, and cut out an oversized square of sub. I usually wipe the lid, and sides, after I've cleaned up from removing the bad spot. Lots of sub left to fruit, especially as I exclusively use huge 105 quart Sterilite tubs...

what like 2013?

these jokes keep getting better.
ive had spots of trich eliminated and flushed the tubs up to 5 flushes. if you catch the trich before it gets a foothold its easy to manage. when it gets big enough it may be a lost cause.
another pointer is that if you intend to flush it out on the 2nd flush. ill move the entire sub to a new liner and new tub after its been cleaned. i even dunk the subs after the trich has been eliminated.
but when you do the surgery. act like your doing still air box work. do it in an area far away from the grow room.

As a matter of fact I am considering doing some PF cakes to get some fruits and new prints....lol.

Dude I have no idea what this is all about. I've been here longer than azur, and a lot of others if we count my account from 2008. None of that shit matters and we all know it.
I spent most of those years fucking off and growing up, so naturally someone who's been at it for like 2 years straight with no breaks at all probably has more experience.
On topic though, I'm totally having them summertime blues with my tubs. Hopefully switching lids and being super careful in the SAB will clear it all up.

I ask myself why only a few people are more abrasive in correspondence on this website. and in the reflection I see that despite my best efforts to reconcile and be impartial to these few people they still find ways to cause off topic discourse. it's very few people indeed who lead to shit like this happening hence why people drift away from being active in MC anyway. and hence why we talk about experimental techniques and pushing the hobby forward in journals to be free of the high school effect that plagues MC. try to make something nice like TNF and people try to ruin it because they were not invited, because they're the least worthwhile posters here that hide their BS behind a some pictures of results too as if that makes the BS tolerable. it's like what the fuck can you do, ya know.

I haven't had issues with fruit flies....yet. Trich almost always comes from bad spawn. But in the summer, unproperly pasteurized casing layers will certainly invite it.

I haven't had issues with fruit flies....yet. Trich almost always comes from bad spawn. But in the summer, unproperly pasteurized casing layers will certainly invite it.
I have .. I am scared they got my tubs already. I had a infestation back a few months ago where everything got trich, it was at the same time as the fruit fly attack, those fuckers.

I haven't had trich yet. Just keeping the fruit flies at bay because I know the second they get in my grow room something will get fucked up.
They're everywhere around here. We don't leave food out for longer than the meal lasts. They were like this last summer.

I just switched from coir to cactus mix to see if that will help with trich issues... if not I might just start using straight verm.

Sand, soil, peat 1:1:1 or soil, pumice, coir 5:1:1... I added verm at 1:4 verm:mix. So far so good, but I've only done 3 tubs with it.

In the spring and summer months the spore load in the ambient environment is MUCH higher due to the warm temperatures. When it's cold outside, trich, and other molds, and bacteria spore loads are decreased. Work hard during fall, and winter. Spend spring, and summer networking and distributing.

This thread did go to hell. And it could have been a useful thread. A few members in here i know you could add a wealth of information on this topic. That's what you should have done. And we're talking about trich, not distribution. No proof is needed for hobby cultivation. Gather data from all your experience and of those on this site. When summer comes around, trich gets extra horny, just like us.
Chances are, everyone will encounter trich. So instead of endlessly answering stupid noob threads on the topic of saving a tub, this thread could have prevented some of those from existing. But no, won't happen. Why? Because of shit egos. I think a lot of you guys need to go make tea with 100 fresh grams of pe. Humble yourselves a little.
Desiderata - Words for Life
Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

In a manner of speaking this is correct. The reason being is that ambient environmental conditions favor the breeding of mold, and bacteria spores during the warm months, thus mold spores go up during the spring, and summer months, then taper off as the fall brings colder temperatures. If you live in a humid climate (like this cultivator) it's worse. Right now the mold, and tree pollen allergens are sitting at plus 90% in this ambient environment. During the cold months those alergen counts go WAY down to like 20%.

Here is an old one that had a small spot of trich. The trich was salted down. A paper towel was laid over the spot to soak up any pooling water. The tub was allowed to flush out. After this flush, the trich was isolated and removed. The piece was covered with a damp bleachwater soaked towel. Then cutout like a cake and removed with a spatula. The substrate itself was taken off of the liner and placed on a new liner in a clean tub. All of the work was done outside of the grow area. Still a decent yield and two more flushes. Surgery is an art form but it does work well. Newb's shouldn't suggest it to other newbs, but it is the LAST OPTION.
Thai Lipa Yai

this ape tub below had surgery prior to first flush, was dunked and made it to 4 flushes before it was tossed. the sub was cut out down to the bottom of the tub and removed. this is a touchy subject but if you use surgical precision you have a chance to completely isolate and remove the contam to salvage the substrate. you may also spread the contam and fail. its a 50/50 bet. but the way i look at it is im probably tossing this tub anyways so why not. you have to pay close attention and monitor the area the next few days after surgery. if the green comes back you may want to toss it. you may also end up doing a surgery again. it can be an uphill battle.
middle right you can see the cake size piece cut out. 2nd flush after a dunk.

here you can even see new fruits next to the area where the contam was cut out. bottom right.

same spot different angle

3rd flush and you can see the same missing piece. each flush had a 4-8 hour dunk.

4th flush same sub

in this last image you can see new pins growing on the contam areas that were removed. 3 flushes later new pins formed after a dunk.

This was an example of a tub that triched in two spots. Said user was lazy and chunked it after the contam was removed and the tub flushed. But as soon as you see the trich, if you take care of it on an established bed, often enough it can be caught in time to make a positive out of a negative. This does take a matter of skill level to achieve and can be done. This had been attempted several times with failure prior to positive results. But achieved with hard work. Most of the time, you won't need to do this but once a year.

How do you know salting alone wouldn't have worked just as well?
I doubt Trich can grow through that much salt. However the salt would probably need to make it all the way to the bottom of the tub to completely isolate it.

correct. a combination of both is used. salt, paper towel for pooling to halt the spread, then removal. removal is necessary if you plan on dunking a substrate between flushes. in this lab, dunks between flushes are used on cased and non cased substrates for rehydration. this is why the entire section is cut out. you can pour salt on the wound, but can you tell how deep that wound is from looking at the surface?
salt helps contain trich on the surface. but if the contam is deep in the substrate, cutting it like a cake is beneficial. generally this is only done on tubs that have small patches and huge flushes. ive lost a battle or two using pure salt. the combination of the bleach solution soaked paper towel, salt, gallon bag and spatula sound like a winner.
plans are being made to implement the gallon bag technique in the future. an entire wing division of the corporation is being dedicated to that now. when it hits mid july-august and the temperatures spike unexpectedly, grow room temperatures can get up to 85 degrees and cause problems.

After being plagued by trich all summer I finally have tubs that are producing mushrooms again. Last summer I was just barely starting, and I had success with mini monos of bucket tek coir/verm spawned with grated PF cakes. Then I started learning agar and pasteurization over the winter, and pulled off some nice grows in the spring.
This summer, I decided I would start experimenting with LC, and everything triched out except for 2 APE mini monos.
Now it's cooling off and I've returned to wedges and g2g, and everything is working wonderfully.
Whatever, the first year of this hobby is one big learning curve
