Hehe looks like woody hill to me   . Great pics bro!! Made me hungry :crazy2:

I have never found aucklandii, altho I only really hunted in that area a couple times and struck sub patches a whole lot nearer to my house so just stuck with those. Might still get my lazy ass into gear and hunt some aucklandii soon

Do you find that generally aucklandii patches are much smaller in total size than sub patches? Or false rumour?

I'm with Ghost on this one WRT public patch rape: DIY patch, and then spread pieces of mycelium / splash spore solution from a drink bottle into every garden you see, especially piles of wood chips in public areas, before they have been spread out.

<Edit> Holy crap I just realised that I may in fact be reaping the benefits of the spore solution I splashed around the local bush track 2 years ago. I nice thought, anyway.

The moral of the story: ALWAYS spore print your decent specimens at least once, before drying. And then add to your water bottle when you take a walk.

As a post-script to this entry, I've spent the last 3 weeks investigating off-track areas near to where I have found most of this season's specimens, as well as different areas with very similar conditions, and found absolutely nothing.
I have therefore come to the conclusion that many of the mushrooms that I have collected this year are in fact the direct result of the spores that I spread 2 years ago.
This was nothing fancy - simply scraping a few spore prints into a Pump water bottle, shaking it up, and then squirting it onto the side of the track as I went for a walk after rain one day.

I probably won't bother repeating this experiment (spores in plain water) - I am henceforth aiming to use the several dozen spore prints that I have accumulated over the last couple of years (and the millions of spores that must be on them), to make various "mass spore slurries" in salt and molasses water and inoculate more off-track piles of wood.
+ I'll be "paying it forward" by inoculating more public piles of woodchips wherever possible (sports grounds, parks etc).
I'm also tempted to do the gardens outside of police stations, but it would be horrible to think that someone couldn't resist the temptation to harvest from these, get caught, and face the wrath of The Evil Forces of Darkness.

:cop:

As a matter of interest - how many other people spore print their specimens and spread spore water?
Do you spore print your mushrooms, and then spread those spores using water / slurry?
You may choose only one

Bro. Do not waste resources on clutivating near pig stations.

Seriously you people who spread spores are legendary, I will be doing it soon, but dont do in in really public places and places where pigs stations are nearby. Do it in woodchipped areas that people don't go to or walk past allot do it in the more private public areas.

I too am very keen to start spreading the love from patches I find. Just curious as to how you mentioned salt + molasses water. Do spores thrive in water that has been enriched with sugar and salt? I am a rookie so i apologize if that question is a bit stupid/obvious. Already, one of the patches I found last week has been completely pulled out and deweeded by the council and i regret not taking some spore prints from the beauties in that patch. Since spore prints take so long to grow (you/other hunters dont reap the benefits till a year or 2), is it a worthwile idea to pull one specimen out per patch from the root with mycellium and all and to replant that in a lovely little bark area somewhere else?

Ay what's so funny, that's what those little maggots and files are, confirm inski. I saw a post of inski's a while back stating this so stfu.

Saw some guy holding an empty paper McDonald's cup scoping one of my patches out today so I scared him off and he gapped it.

Sorry that just struck me as funny, like a bit ott. And the gnats, I was wondering what those maggots were that you see on mushrooms. Looks like they are a good insect too in that they transport the spores. Live and let live I say. I flick them out with a paint brush.

A couple of gunshots  went off in my vicinity when out scrooming recently in a forest. Now shit, that is something to worry about. Peace bro.

Just google "spore mass slurry" - and if you can get hold of either Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms, or Mycelium Running (or
both) by Paul Stamets, this and much, much more is covered in those.
No doubt also in the forums here at Shroomery.
I'd guess that it doesn't take 2 years to get a result from spores, especially if you use it on a bed of wood chips at a sufficiently high concentration.

Some very nice photos of Aucklandii blazer. Would love to find some being an ex-Aucklandaiier but don't know if I could be so lucky being down south. The hunt goes on.

Has anybody here given the spore slurry a go and got results? Would the salt and molasses be ok with sub spores? I have spores in just water alone stored in the fridge. Thinking of mixing in a few 20 litre containers and spreading around my neighborhood, but want to know if the spore slurry gets a better result? Anybody care to share?
