Descriptions? Spore prints? With all due respect, I suggest that you read this: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/5731447 This is not only to aid in positive identification, but also to help others identify their finds.

Hello Eagerhunter, first of all, thanks for the advice. I'm new to the mushrooms world, so, I didn't check the spore pints and I took these pictures around 6 months ago. The only thing I can describe is the size. The biggest ones had around 2 or 2.5 inches of diameter and 3 or 3.5 inches of height. Another thing I can say is that I found them at an altitude of 1200 metres (3937 feet) above sea level and that was in The Dominican Republic (Tropical climate)
I'll try to go to that place again and collect more information about them.
Thanks.

Good luck! I learnt the hard way about not taking at least 1 specimen and getting spore prints (for further propagation) a couple of years ago - I found some amazing smelling mushrooms that I thought might be edible, and have not been able to find them again since, despite searching within 10m of the spot many times at the same time of year. Next time you find them, make a note of what type of tree they are growing on, as well as descriptions of the fruiting body. Who knows, you may be the first to find that type of mushroom in the Dominican Republic! And as an aside, does Anadenanthera colubrina / peregrina grow wild there? I have an A. colubrina growing in my back yard but I think it's a bit cold here, as it rarely flowers and has never set any seeds.

I think there is a lesson here. Do not regulate the private morals of people. Do not tell them what they can take or not take. Because if you do, they will become angry and antisocial and they will get what they want from criminals who are able to work in perfect freedom because they have paid off the police." - Gore Vidal, "The State of the Union" (1975)

I don't know if we have that species but we have anadenanthera peregrina, but I've never seen the tree. About the climate I think you are right, NZ and DR have like 15 or 20 degrees C of difference (being DR hotter)

About the mushrooms, do you have any clue if they are edibles? (you can recommend me a book too )
