My super half-assed oyster grow

It's been a few years since I've done any myc work, but I've been playing around again, and finally getting my hands into the edible world.
I had some oyster jars I nocced up with an old lc, and they grew way quicker than i had planned on, and I'm also running behind on getting my martha set up, so I'm wingin it and throwing stuff together I have laying around.
Rather than research the tried and true methods, like a true noob I decided to slap it together with what I know from vague memory, and see how it goes.

I collected some dead pine (not sure what kind. we have jeffrey's, sugars, whites, and weird sugar hybrids) from a decaying stump in the forest on a bike ride the other day, and had some straw at home. brought both to a boil to saturate the wood without doing a long soak, strained, let them air out a bit as they still seemed pretty wet.
Here's after they've been boiled, and I broke up the wood into around sugar cube size.

pasteurizing at 170 for an hour-ish.
I'll be spawning 3 quarts of rye to the straw/woodchips mix into a filter patch bag later once things cool.
6/15 update - I can see the myc jumping off the grain onto the straw, not sure about the wood.

6/23 update - pulled the plastic off last night, it appears to be 95% colonized. still smells good, so we'll see if it pins. turns out I used alfalfa which is supposed to be a trich factory, but I can't see any signs on contam, and like I said, it smells clean
it looks like my sub was a little too wet, and when I pulled off the lid, there was lots of water pooled on top. I let the top air out over night, and put it back on this AM.

UPDATE - 7/1 PINS!!!!!

7/3 coming along nicely
feel free to comment on my last minute hodge-podge or how you do things
COMPLETE!! - I can't explain how rewarding it was to eat my first fruits, but I'm sure many of you remember the feeling well. These things were delicious. I cooked them with sweet potatoe, a spicy peanut sauce, and made a burrito with greens, tomatoe, and avocado. it. was. rad.
I didn't take any pics of teh finished clusters before harvest, but they were easily the size of a softball or bigger. Can't wait for more flushes!
I'll keep this thread updated until it either finishes, triches out, or stalls.

Pulmonarius? some other species might have a hard time in 100% pine but I have limited experience with oyster still
the edible forum would be a great place to show this off.

No just regular ostreatus.
we'll see how it goes. I figure, at the worst, it might just colonize the straw
edit: yeah you're right. Can a mod please move this? I should have made the thread there in the first place; oops.

thanks wanker
I'm thinking about fruiting out of a bucket instead of a bag.
thoughts?

Whichever you have on hand. If neither than a bag is the cheapest.

I have both, but I guess I like the idea of the bucket more for some reason.
any pros cons you've experienced to either?

I like the ease of bags but buckets (especially opaque ones) seem to cause a lot less undesired pinning around the substrate though.

alright,
it's all sitting in a 5 gallon bucket in some plastic now.
I'm curious to see if it colonized the pine at all. If it does, I have a nearly unlimited supply of free substrate

I lost my pulmonarius genetics in laziness unfortunately last month or I'd give you a plate of it. Its supposed to take to resinous trees alright. Keep us posted.

updated with a picture of the bucket.
i can see the myc jumping off the grains and onto the straw.
it colonized the grains really fast, so I'm hoping the bucket follows the same trend.

thanks!
I thought it stalled out cause it sat for so long at "full colonization", but I think it just took longer to consolidate that it seemed.
I've been misting it the last couple days and that seems to help out too.
IO'll probably saute them in a pan like I cook pretty much every meal
avocado oil, and whatever spices smell appropriate.
any suggestions?

I'm glad to see it worked on those materials. The reason I first bought an oyster culture was to grow food from 'trash' I just have a lot of confidence to gain before experimenting with new materials. a nice oyster mushroom risotto sounds nice. I also like a medium high Sautee in a neutral tasting oil, deglaze with white wine and finish with a pat of butter. Sooooo good.

Yeah, I'm surprised it not only colonized it all, but is spitting out fruits too! I had heard that oysters were ferocious and will eat anything, but now I really get it.
updated with a pic of the current fruits
