Growing my own Rye

Hey everyone, So I thought I'd share this pic I took of a random Rye head I have growing. I am growing a bunch of annuals as usual but figured this one ties into the mushroom growing hobby. I know I wont yield enough of one head to use for grain spawn or anything but I just figured it's worth growing a few heads of Rye just for seed for shits and giggles.
Maybe I'll plant more next time and use it for grain spawn .. Hopefully I'll inspire one of you to grow your own Rye too.

I'v thought about trying a rye or wheat grow myself mostly as a novelty. I don't really have enough land to grow tons of it though. I watched a video one time that was about this dude that grew his own wheat from seed all the way to him processing it into his own bread. Thought that was pretty neat...

Ya I pretty much am growing it as a novelty too I am also growing a few Oat plants just because I can.. They're actually quite a bit more attractive ornamentally than the typical grasses.
Good to keep just for seed if not to increase soil diversity etc..

I didn't measure yield . Not a big fan on yield measuring even when I do get considerable yields. I just grew it a few stalks for soil diversity sake.. Intending to grow a more substantial amount next year!

Were you able to harvest it at all? Did it give you enough to do anything with?

I got one or two heads of Rye and about half a dozen Oat heads.. Just enough to have a few more seeds to plant. I have a couple kg's of Barley, Oats and Rye seed still from 2014 (the seed it came from) so I'm already stocked up .I kind of neglected it have had a lot of different stuff on the go have been busy .
