Habitat: Where does it grow? In central Montana. Near an aspen Forrest. In a donkey pasture. Growing directly out of donkey manure.
Gills: i don't know a lot about gills. But I will include pictures.
Stem: the stems seem to vary. Some are short and fat- thick! Some are tall and thin, like dandelions stems. They aren't hollow but aren't solid either. It's very stringy inside. The big ones are Almost "woody" but a little too soft to really be called woody. (I assume the big ones are old???)
Cap: They feel smooth but look bumpy. Slimy when wet, a little sticky as they dry. Range from A light toasted marshmallow color to a golden brown. Why small they appear very dome shaped to me. The oldest, biggest ones have a flat, light cream colored "halo" around the edge.
Spore print color: Jet black.
Bruising: no bruising visible. The blue-ing you might see is actually just black spores that have fallen off the gills.
Other information: I do see remnants of a veil or an intact veil on all of them. I am pretty sure they are growing in clumps. Meaning, several stems come together in a clump beneath the manure.

Thanks for the quick reply!
So these are pretty common to find but not something most people eat? And definitely not active, correct?
I'm new to the mushroom world this year. Went on my first ever morel hunt two weeks ago-- came home with 3 lbs... All from my own property! I hAd never had one before & now I'm in love!
Saw these guys last night & thought they might be worth asking about.

Probably tastes similar to P. antillarum which some people enjoy, I can't say I know personally.
