Do spore drops inhibit pinning?
    #21802023 - 06/13/15 10:57 AM (8 years, 7 months ago)

Whats the current trusted word on this, I simply must know.

I hear it is best to harvest fruits right before the veil breaks?
But, if you let your fruits drop load after load, is there a quantifiable
down side besides the mess? Like, does it inhibit future pinning or cause
pins to abort, etc? I hear the fruits are of lesser 'quality' after spore drop
but that sounds pretty vague ta me. Anyways...thanks, Beav!

Once the mushrooms get to a certain point they keep increasing in size, but not potency. They wont lose the potency they have, but will effectivly become less potent by weight. Since most of us dose by weight, I see why people might unfairly judge the mushrooms as weak.

So thats another reason to pick before/right when the veil breaks, so you dont have to eat more mushroom matter than you need.

Also they look ugly and taste bad

But if you miss the drop, it won't negatively affect the rest of your grow?

Thanks.

I have heard that it does send a kind of message to the myc. But is it enough to make a signifigant difference? Hasn't in my exp, but I have only let a few tubs get to this point.

Has it happened to you or something?

If I were you I would just harvest when the veil pops. Just keep an eye on your tubs.

Everyone says it drops potency but no one's ever been able to show proof. I think it's just a plain old lie that someone made up. I remember when I believed that and had a 3 gram cap open mushroom thinking it'd be like 2-2.5 grams. It was more like 4 grams of aborts it raped me so bad lol. Genetics and mindset. I haven't even found a difference between aborts and full grown mushrooms.. maybe .5 gram difference. Personally I think mycelium is mycelium. It's more dependant on genetics.

Mister mush I've had tons open up and I don't think the message sending is what happens imo. The substrate shrinks because it's losing hydration. It shrinks more as it pushes more into the mushrooms, it takes an extra day or so for them to open up, and that's a whole day of extra hydration getting pushed out. That's my theory as to why it could be worse. Keeping hydration up with misting is how I get around it.

No trees were killed in the sending of this message. However, a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

It's just kinda nasty looking but imo doesn't cause any problems.

The only reason to wait is because of laziness, absence or trying to get a perfect shroom flush for a photo.

So I pick just as the veil is tearing.

I always wash my shrooms before drying to get off the sub & spores, if any :stoned:

I'm not sure if a signal is sent but, a huge spore dump does seem to jam up the surface with them. Certainly is not good for the pin locations.
