Interesting Experiment
    #21801366 - 06/13/15 09:37 AM (8 years, 7 months ago)

I had to be out of town for a few days and while I was gone my fruiting chamber got spore bombed.  Man, those guys can really throw off the black coating.  As I sort of experiment I gathered up some of the pearlite that was saturated with spores and mixed it with my usual combo of verm and rice flour.  No sterilization, no pressure cooker, nothing.  Just tossed the whole batch in small jars I had around.  (little 1/4 pt size)  Much to my surprise they grew into nice little cakes.  One of them started pins so I dunked it and put it out to fruit,  Whattya know, 10 little shrooms growing on one cake.

Definitely not ideal by any means. Sounds like it worked because of the small jars and high spawn ratio so The myc was able to get a bit of a headstart and didn't have far to go to finish.

Glad you got some fruits tho:super:

Yes yes, I agree its better to use precautions against contamination.  I learned that I don't have to be as clean room crazy as I have been in the past.  I'd call this experiment "quick and dirty"  and ... lucky.
