A Mechanic Question

So i have a lawn mower, it was rusty so i started throwing parts into a vinager solution to strip the rust off.
The carb float bowl, the inside bottom was a little rusty. Problem is, it was gold colored when it went in, and it came out base metal/silver looking. Guessing it was some kind of zinc coating that got stripped off.
My question is, how am i going to stop this thing from rusting now. Can i paint it, inside and out? im guessing eventually the paint will come off and clog jets n shit up.......so wtf do i do?
Everything i can think of would get stripped by the gasoline. I mean i figuer i could most likely paint the outside no problem, the inside about the only thing i can think of is oil, wax, shit like that. a new carb bowl is $50 for a little piece of metal, not buying a new one.
So any mechanic's got any idea's?
Right now i only got 2 idea's, paint it and hope all it does is clog up a jet (that is all that will happen right, or more serious stuff too?)
or #2 i was thinking maybe try to electro plate it, pennys or some shit is made of zinc right?

Not a mechanic, so wait for a mechanic.
But as a Graffiti artist, two words Rust, and oleum
Rust-oleum is designed just for that, so if you're gonna paint it rust-oleum is the way to go.
It's also the best paint you can rak from a hardware store/walmart. Good ass paint as far as cheap department store paint goes. The only paint I'll rak to hit a wall.

In all seriousness leave it alone, now if the carb bowl has a good deal of rust on the inside you could give it a good once over with as fine of steel wool. Make sure to wash it out before returning it to your mower. As far as surface rust goes it won't hurt a thing. Now on the outside its up to personal opinion. Won't hurt a thing to have some surface rust but if that annoys you either steel wool and apply a coat of oil, or steel wool and paint. But here's a tip next fall when your done mowing add a touch of fuel stabilizer to your gas and run it for a min. The inside of the carb can not rust if its full of gas.

If you are going to paint it make sure you use a high heat paint . Like the stuff they use to paint brakes .
I would just get a new carb or goto a junk yard and find something and make it fit

No high heat paint needed for a carb bowl as it should stay cool or you have even more issues. But outside of bowl is fine to do anything you wish. Inside the bowl is another story. Do nothing at all paint will dissolve, same with oil, and grease. One thing that does come to mind would be to blue the carb bowl. But blueing is just surface rusting. If you really want to coat the inside use perma blue or similar anything else will only cause you problems or waste your time. But again rust will not happen on the inside of a carb without moisture and oxygen which a carb full of gass is void of. Don't go crazy on it after all it's a lawn mower not a hot-rod.

It's unlikely (unless the mower is VERY old) that the bowl is made of a material that will rust.
Will a magnet stick to it?

dont paint your carb dude, they dont do it on vehicles, what makes your lawn mower so fucking special?
if you use it regularly and take care of it you wont have to worry about it.

it was cadmium, the carb is likely aluminum, the fittings and shit were most likely steel or brass. you can paint the carb but it's not going to do much good as aluminum oxide is harder than aluminum and the steel parts will rust regardless

its a commercial honda, so to me it kinda is a hot rod of sorts, i just want to preserve it, so im trying to stop all the rust, and potential rust

its just the bowl at the bottom that i did it to, the rest i just sprayed with carb cleaner, but the inside of the bowl, the bottom was filled with crud and under it was rust. i couldn't fit anything down that far to sand it really, so i just soaked it in vinegar
sounds like i should test it to see if its aluminum, and then maybe blue the inside if its not, i had never thought of blueing it, thanks for that idea

welp, magnet stuck to it, so must be steel
also weird thing with this vinager bath, everything looked better the first day, but now things started to turn colors, kinda sucks. i had some wrenches in there i guess wrenchs are plated in shit, so some of it flaked off. I for some reason thought they were stainless steel. and of course turned colors along with everything else
thing im gunna just sandblast shit next time
