I don't know of any psychedelics that can cause mental illness. This is a common misconception. If someone was to say that these kinds of drugs could bring out latent mental disorders I would agree. Mental illness has more to do with DNA not LSD.

well if the drugs bring out latent mental issues that wouldn't have come out otherwise then you could argue that they do cause mental illness

Ok, as the other people have said, psychedelics probably cannot DIRECTLY cause mental illness. What psychedelics do is produce a very extreme emotional experience. This can absolutely act as a trigger for any one of a wide variety of mental illnesses.
Basically, if you think an extreme experience might seriously affect you: Don't take psychedelics.

That's splitting hairs. LSDreamer has a more accurate assessment. I finally lost my marbles when I found out **redacted**. It was a profound emotional experience and my mind couldn't take it at the time. Nuttiness runs in the family though. Was bound to happen at some point. Besides, being half crazy it doesn't take a lot to trip sack. Although I don't recommend people with health issues take drugs.

It really is amazing the degree to which stress, in general, contributes to the severity of mental illnesses.

i think the risk, while real, is largely blown out of proportion. and in many cases, under the right circumstances, they could actually be used to treat mental illness.

Psychedelics seem to exasperate pre-existing mental conditions.

Everyone in this country is bipolar. Just visit a doctor's office near you and receive your legal diagnosis.

Right.
Good read. Studies indicate it does not CAUSE mental illness.
But if you give a paranoid-schizophrenic or someone with Alzheimer's a few hits of LSD, it's not going to be beneficial to that person or their disease. It will worsen the symptoms and I doubt there are too many studies out on the study of the correlation.

Psychedelics can diminish or increase your coping with your bipolar disorder.
You either are or arent, but the outcome can be worsened or eased.

short term i think halucinogens cause psycosis which can cause harm reguarding bipolar
however i think once you work through the psychosis through the trip and the following weeks and months you end up in a better place than before the trip.
but for a short time i get delusional which can make me syptomatic but as time goes by psycosis and delusions go away and i am in a better place than proir to working through my problems.
