What it is not
    #21796981 - 06/12/15 11:19 AM (8 years, 7 months ago)

It is not about what you believe or whether people agree.
It is not about what religion you subscribe to, whether it has seven billion adherents or just one.
There is nothing to understand, no point to be made, no concrete foundation on which to rest assured logic.
Your life and behavior will no doubt be a conglomerate of experience, memory, the results of both fearful and loving action

but ultimately it is between you and god. The rest is periphery.

Very nice, WScott!!

Very true as well.

An interesting, somewhat related and somewhat not, thought which occurs, is the "not this, not this" practice in Hinduism. . . It isn't all that special, it kind of is - it's the same as anything else. . . going to the source!! <3

Follow the stream to the source!

Anyway the 'not this, not this,' or 'neti, neti' is simply, following it. . . in a sense, to keep going deeper, until you see the reality, the source - etc.

Similar to the self-enquiry method of Ramana Maharshi, and Bassui Tokushō (From Hinduism and Zen), who taught their students to meditate upon the question 'Who am I?' become absorbed, and follow it to the source. . if any thought arises, they said, ask, 'To whom is this thought occurring,' etc. and so forth.

Anyway that's only partially related; your point is very true and valid and helps keep things in perspective. . .

What really matters is where we are in our relationship to the Source of Being and Love, our connection to reality, the source of it all - everything else is a distant second.

Also I would just add that it's all connected; our relationship to all living beings is also reflected. . .

And the best way to really understand someone is to see the effect they have on others. . . Do they bring out joy? the best in them?

The more thy do this, the more worthwhile their speech and actions,

and the less they do this, the less we can say they have progressed,

spiritually

(just a possibility).
