I think it would shoot out of there if it does... Maybe just a side would pop out first and you'd lose pressure.
No, I doubt it would reset itself.. But that would be easy, if it doesn't fly off behind the stove. lol

exactly so while it can handle the pressure the question becomes can it handle the pressure and heat
The cooker probably would, I'd be more concerned about what that heat does to what you're sterilizing.

even if ur PSI gauge and steam release are mounted on the same exhaust, it will still work as a PC the way u described in ur OP. its all part of the same system, as u pull back and tighten the twist handle, the gauge will slowly read the rise in pressure. home built low pressure barrels work in a similar way, except they use mercoid units to read the pressure, but both the PSI gauge and steam exhaust are mounted from one opening.
not sure about slowing it on cool down, it will form a vacuum if u close it while hot. i know some people who open their PC's at 1 PSI so nothing gets sucked in. if ur just using jars with filters, u don't need to worry about it either way.

Thats funny, cuz atmospheric pressure isn't 1 psi. The problem is that the gauge can't read negative pressure (mine has a stopper on the needle) so when it reads 0 it is actually lower.
Why open the PC while its hot?

Right but some autoclavable things might not withstand the extra heat.

Do you have an AA? If so the 0 mark should be a couple millimeters above the needle stop and under no vacuum or pressure the needle should hover above the stopper. When there is vacuum the needle pulls down and rests on the stopper. So it doesn't tell you how much vacuum its pulling, but you can get an indication of whether or not there is a vacuum from the gauge.

No I have a Presto. That's cool that it can indicate underpressure. But I don't see a reason to open the PC while its hot just to avoid a vacuum. You have some type of filter on your jars anyway. You can't use anything while its hot so what's the point of opening it?

That's fuckin weird man. I'd replace that valve with the standard stopcock. It's like 35 bucks from AA. I second whoever said that thing was probably used as a still. That's def a 1925x that was modified. It would be a good idea to start with the stopcock, and then replace any other iffy parts.

Word, PC won't go over 275 and I could get my hands on some PMP which can handle 370. But whatever the over pressure valve is set to is the deciding factor. There's numbers on it but I can't make out any thing that suggest spec.

Well the over pressure valve is set to 23psi if anyone was wonder. Its not a stock part but its stock setting.
