AA 925X with twist valve

So I bought this and I am not sure if there is a proper way of using it.
I'd assume that I would just enter contents and water, close valve after several minutes of steaming and then once pressure is reached adjust flame to hold constant pressure. Then after run time is up, remove from heat source. But I've heard of people not opening valve and it creates a vacuum, and somehow thats a benefit? Then later they slowly release the vacuum? I dunno.

IDK man, I've never seen one like that. Maybe somebody modified it?
You should be able to buy normal parts for it.

Yeah, im pretty sure you let it cool with the weight on so it does not drag air full of contamination into the pressure cooker and then the jars as they cool.
Basically your creating 2 vacuums, one inside the other, one in the jars in the pressure cooker and the other is the pressure cooker itself.
But im sure someone else will correct or better define the answer to your question.
Also, youll need that missing wingnut. Is that the sterilizer? Kinda seems to me to have some sort of attachment...

there is no weight on this one, The pressure is controlled by the twist valve. I've heard of people using them like this before, and commenting about creating a vacuum by shutting valve then cooling, but I don't remember what user that was. But ya, those are after market parts, which is why I wanted it. 100 plus shipping. I ordered a replacement wing nut too.

That's not the valve most people are talking about. Buy a normal valve and hope they didn't drill that thing out.

That's what I would do. However, it truly does make one wonder why they used that one!

Its a continuously variable on/off valve, no need to replace it, I say. If it works, why mess with it. Its unique.

Give it a shot and use sterilized indicator tape to make sure you have a good sterilization.
I have a 'vintage' AA pc and love it, despite its quirks

Yep, looks pretty legit too. That's coming from an engineer.
Run it and tighten it to get to 15 psi, see how it works.
Edit: Is that black handle attached to the lid just for lifting it off? Cuz that's pretty awesome too

Moar pics!!! Is that a stock Excess Pressure Relief Valve? They say that these AAs are tested over 200psi... I run mine at 20psi. I wonder how high the previous owners ran it and what they used it for.

in the industry that tape is just use to show something went into the sterilizer and is sterilized that's all not to verify how good sterilization was. the tape is shit basically, it's only for places where you would want to know if a load has or has not been through the autoclave. there's biological indicators to actually verify sterilization and they're quite expensive and a pain in the ass to use. you have to actually incubate the indicator to verify if anything was viable after sterilization.
I'd be wiling to bet if you took a tea kettle and put some of that tape by where the steam comes out the whistle it would change color in less than 15m.

idk. But most PCs that come with a weight are designed to run at 15. Mine does and I have no way of adjusting pressure without getting a different weight (which I'm not sure they make). The gauge also only goes to 20 and then says caution.
Yours going to 60 makes me curious how high people have run it, but I wouldn't suggest taking it as high as the gauge goes, it's probably an aftermarket gauge as well.

an AA can easily do 20. and 60 but I wouldn't do 60. beer kegs are 10 times thinner the valve is way less heavy duty than the seal on an AA and they hold 60 before the safety plug fails,

The comment about AA's being tested 200psi is pretty reassuring. Ain't no telling what I'd try to do....25 would seem fine. 30 sounds nice. If the over pressure relief valve allows I guess...What happens when an AA over pressure valve goes off? Does it automatically reset?

exactly so while it can handle the pressure the question becomes can it handle the pressure and heat

In order to go from 15psi to 20 psi with an AA PC you need to ad ~40g of extra weight somewhat symmetrically to the existing weight.
