Shipping Container Plans

Talking to people, I have heard mention of plans to set up a shipping container to a lab/grow room. Does anyone here have anything like this?
I have toyed with the idea of burying one to use as a growroom and stacking another one on top to be used as a lab. Of course, I would need to outfit the containers to suit my needs.
It would be nice to find an All-in-one, Everything you need all in one place blueprint to make this easier than a bunch of guesswork.
Kind of like www.pharmpods.com for mushrooms.

I have contacted them about these and they quit selling them over a year ago and just haven't taken them off the site yet. I suppose I could contact her to see if they would be willing to provide how they did it tho...

If you cant build it you probably can't run it or, more importantly, maintain and fix it.

Basically, what I am looking for is who has experience with commercial-level (though small) grow rooms. Someone who has done research, selected equipment and narrowed choices down to brands and selected material for building. Things of this nature.

^drake is a good choice. Along with: solarity, lipa, chefinainteasy, OlCU812, and of course RR. Read their posts and take their advice, they all have good things going on.
Edit: Here is RR's set up http://www.mushroomvideos.com/Mountain-Mushroom-Farm

Some of these decisions depend on the types of mushrooms you want to grow, materiel's you have access to, your local climate, and your personnel preferences.
lets say you want to grow shiitake. You need access to hardwood/doug fir sawdust, a mixing/bagging area, sterilization set up for 5lb blocks, flow hood for bag work, 3 times as much colonization space as fruiting space, environmentally controlled fruiting space with pipe shelves or racking, and composting area.
With oysters you could skip the lab, order spawn commercially, chop straw or other ag waste, hot water or lime pasteurize, roughly equal colonization space and fruiting space, hang poly tubes in your fruiting area, then compost.
I would subdivide the grow space so you can scrub it out without halting production, also remember waste water collection and disposal.

Do not bury a standard shipping container. Pressure from the backfill aka the walls will crumple it as well as the roof. You can stack a container on top since the weight is supported by the right angles but shipping containers are not hard to crush.
Google a bit. You'd be better off using concrete in ground.

sooooo...not to be a dick but what you're asking for is someone who has done all the research, calculations, planning and work to give you all their information?

Pretty much. Isn't that how a tek works? Someone takes the time to document different experimental methods, stumbles upon a new method and shares.
I'm doing it one way or the other. Would just be a total lack of cunning if I didn't ask to see successful end results with avoiding the types of trials and tribulations that waste your time and money
So yeah. Wut you sed.

Its interesting: lots of people come to ask for help here and there are varying degrees of response. I think when someone communicates the effort that they've already made then people are more helpful. If someone just posts a few questions in the hope that other people will write up all their results just for them then responses seem to be pretty lacklustre, especially if that information is already available in the forums through patient and thorough use of the search function. If other growers running commercial operations are anything like me then time is limited and valuable and, much as I like helping people, I don't have the time for someone who doesn't use the search function a little before asking their questions.
In this case what you're talking about seems something like RR's shiitake setup, which has been discussed at length by RR and many other people in the forums...

You would be much better off burying 6 or 8" drainage pipe, a few hundred feet, and blowing air thru it, than burying a box. They're called earth tubes. And stacking would be a nightmare transporting hundreds of pounds of substrate daily or weekly up and down. Side by side would much more efficient.

as far as i know, there isn't a shipping container "tek". we don't really do "teks" in the edibles forum. like i said, use those threads i posted as a starting point. i've never seen RR's shiitake setup but I assume it shouldn't be hard to find. there's a lot of information on the site. its just not in the form of a tek. there is way too much that goes into building a structure like that to write it all up in a single tek. plus, the variability based on individual sites and resources would make it hard to provide step by step instructions anyway. you're not building a simple shed....
i'm planning to build a shipping container fruiting chamber, too. but i'm not ready yet. still doing research. been doing research for a year.

Fair enough. I spend hours on this site every day. I spend hours "trying on" the techniques and methods other users graciously post. I also use the search function ardently. But sometimes the search function does more harm than good. Maybe not so much in this particular area. But sometimes you search for information on FAE and at the end of a 2 hour stint, you have FAR more questions than answers. So you ask. Then you get a better description that is fine-tuned to fit your needs. So I apologize if it seems as though I'm starting a post to shortcut myself to an answer SO many have arrived at before without the luxury of help. But the fact is, I have searched. Not only this site either. MANY. And sure, I did not pose a specific question, which likely would have received better results, but you never know what you might get back if you ask broader questions.
I think it would be pretty kick ass if there were a section designated for larger scale (not necessarily business) cultivation. Labs, Grow rooms, the buidings, or green houses... And for gourmet and medicinal in particular. Maybe people don't want to share that information because they don't want to saturate the market and kill any potential of true competition. Idk. But this forum already puts able minds to work. I have the means and mind to do what I want. And I want a setup a lot like Drake's.
Maybe I will just have to go check it out for myself. But a dialogue that covers things other than greenhouses in a closet is what I want. And the search function, sometimes leaves a lot to be desired. So just understand, I spend HOURS a day scouring these forums. And I just decided to throw a line out and see if anything interesting came up. And it hasn't entirely disappointed me. But I will say thank you for at least taking the time to give what you will.

It's not a shipping container but here's a write up on using a reefer trailer as a grow room.
