Remembering and Forgetting
    #21796123 - 06/12/15 05:39 AM (8 years, 7 months ago)

Why is it so hard to remember
And why is it so easy to forget?

Lately I've been letting my  move me
moreso than my GOD-DAMMED MIND lol

and it just dawns on me....how the hell do i keep forgetting this lesson?
hahahahahahhaha.

maybe that's what makes it fun?
i don't know....

ridiculous game of ignorance and bliss.
ahh life.

nice thread. :sun:

:earth:

it really is a very interesting question - one thing I've basically felt is true since early childhood is that we all have potentially eidetic memories, and my life has born this out.

We talk of everyone and everything having a divine nature a fair amount on this forum, but recently I've found a more practicable way of viewing something quite similar.

Emerson put it this way, 'Everyone has a Genius,' and over the last few months and year I've really come to understand this, on a rather surprising level, and that has pretty much thrown every other concept of intelligence out the window. . . it's funny, how ideas can be so wrong ( he's intelligent, he's not) when you realize anyone can reach the highest level of understanding and love - understanding human nature or how to live, skillful action, the Sage's wisdom, etc. . . it really changes the paradigm.

Now to your question - that is a whole topic of inquiry; and well worth doing. . . best I can say is spend some time in reflection or meditation each day - practice honing your senses, this is a good skill - and practice simplifying and re-ordering your knowledge.  Several philosophers and others have made the point that how we order our knowledge is one of the most important things.

One useful thing is to not clutter up the mind too much; science has come to understand that 'cramming' and other things like this, actually impede our brains best function - will it be anytime soon that we restructure our whole education system, which is largely based on previous methods of learning?  I don't think it will be soon - this is simply another indication that learning what is the best way to learn is far more effective than following the curriculum.

Another thing is to practice memory tricks and so forth, and engage in practices that improve memory - but as far as remembering transcendental experiences, that is one level further, an there is no hard and fast rule or way to do so.  One thing that is useful however, is the phrase for example, 'Always remember, and never forget!'  or things like that.

Best :sun:
