to make it clear, they are not syringe inoculated, it is just the containers I had where I could compact the straw. We can't see but there are colonized dowels (1 or 2), colonized pieces of cardboard and colonized chunks of straw inside.

ah ok psilociben, I read your posts from the beginning, if I understand correctly the problem here is the jars are too tall, right?

You got it brother. It is likely that high C02 buildup will cause them to stall. Myc likes co2 during colonization, but still needs oxygen because its a living thing! Thats what people mean when they refer to gas exchange. Think of it like the mycelium breathing.
Best thing to do is get your agar started. I'm on my mobile right now but i'll write you a more detailed note on how to procceed when I get home.

yeah knomadic, but it is nice
the tranfers I did from this one seems to be going well (pic not good, and the second petri dish looks the same)

and this is the sister of the multicolor dish in the previous post, which I'm about to transfer to 5 grain jars obviously inoculated with a dead spore syringe. (I know it is not the best but as you can see I'm not afraid to learn from my mistakes, I'm going away for 10 days, and I prefer to do that instead of just tossing the jars )

oh and I've seen a small bacteria inside the ring close to 6:30, I conclude that is why there is a small discontinuity in the shape of the ring there, so I'm going to avoid this area, and take triangles enclosing the leading edge of the myc..

I dont see what the problem is? He transferred unsterile myc > sterile agar. Of course it will need cleaning up! thats what agar is for.
Looking good TRG. You are learning fast. Where did you get your petris? I wish I had some glass ones that I could PC, but they are expensive. I use small 250ml mason jars.
I put a few drops of red food colouring in my last batch of agar (PastyWhites idea) to help see myc growth better. Try it next time just for kicks.

PC them for 90 minutes and let them cool before knocking them up with the agar. There might be all sorts of stuff in there by now...

just came back today, here is the only straw jar I didn't toss, it smells fresh although I think the anis smell could be more present:
It is funny how the smell was not so good at the beginning and changed as it was colonizing.
the old grain jars reinoculated with agar. I'm keen on comments on that since it doesn't look homogeneous:

these are jars that were sterilized just before being inoculated, maybe a bit wet, with signs of wet spots bacterial contam (the third one just been shaken:
I wonder how bad it is for the mushrooms if they fruit and for consumtion? What if the myc overpowers it? Any information on the subject would be ingested, analyzed, and remembered
hope you're all well guys

so here is the update:
the batch of grain jars, some just shaken some not, the two on the top left are not oyster..
and what I dit with two of them:

I am not sure how it is going to turn, the smell was a bit sour.. maybe caused by the fact that the jars were 1 month old when I inoculated? shame, we will see..

hi,
I got these jars still on the shelf, 3 out of 4 have some wet spot inside.. I don't know how bad it is?? I was thinking to maybe wait to see how i becomes if I wait to see if the myc takes over, or decides to eat it if it can?? Maybe try to fruit them outside later??

Two good looking ones I try to fruit this way, with the straw one I put in there 4 days ago (that i dunked before I learned it was not really necessary for oyster).

Any comment or remarks about anything?

Remember oysters require lots of fae and make sure to mist if the substrate is dry

ok, I will do the misting. So if I understand well I should not put any more jars in there. For Fae I suppose what I can do is fan a lot for the moment as long as I don't have a real fruiting chamber or a small greenhouse to keep the conditions correct.
Do you think I need to prepare myself to observe that the FAE is not enough?

I will not say it will not work. But doing straw in jars seems like going against everything straw is about. If you need to multiply the amount of spawn you need then do grain to grain transfers (g2g). once you have the spawn you need - spawn your grains to bulk pasteurized straw. Hope this helps.
